also about the DVD decoder, when I bought my BFG 6800GT OC it came with a dvd Decoder called NVDVD and thats the one i use mostly, it was free. Does that mean there is a way to get this new DVD decoder free from BFG?!?

It's all in the first post. Whether its worth $20 is up to you. NVDVD does not yet support PureVideo, if you have NVDVD you might want to wait and see if they release a PureVideo enabled version before shelling out the cash for the DVD decoder.

And you dont have to buy a thing to play one on a PS2. Its a bad decision by mangement.

I will be using it, but I wont be buying it.
 
I know this isn't the HTPC forum, but they don't seem to care about the topic. I have a 6800, and while it's in a PC that won't be next to the TV ever, I'm already thinking about a HTPC system (that can do other things, naturally) and looking to the future, some day I expect it to display things on a HDTV. So I guess this means I can't recycle my card for that use when that day comes. :(
If I had the cash, I'd be doing this now, so I expect that someone out there probably does have the cash and is able to output that video onto a large plasma or LCD display... and this really sucks for them. Anyways, I am a little annoyed about this. When I first read the rumors that this would be a problem for my card, I was really hoping the information would be incorrect or they would release a bios update to fix it.
So to summerize, unless ATI really can't get anything together, I'll look to them for graphics needs when I decide to put together my HTPC (a year or two, likely).
 
When the next generation comes out, Nvidia prolly won't be able to deliver some of its promises yet again. How could I trust that? As far as I am concerned, MPEG encoding is just as important, and when Nvidia reneges on its promises to deliver it, it decreases the value of the GPU by at least 1/3 in todays world of merging computer and media technologies.
