PSU Switch Problem

Hi,

I just got a new Enrmax Triathlor FC 550W PSU, I installed it on my new pc and it was exactly what I was looking for, compact, modular and pretty much silent.

Just one problem: the on/off switch on the back of the PSU seems not to affect the system. I mean the pc turns on from the front case switch, even if the switch on the back of the PSU is off. May I have connected something bad to the mobo or the PSU is defective and needs a RMA?

Here's my system:

Lian-Li PC-Q11 Case
Asrock H77M-I Mini ITX
I5 3470 + AXP-100 Cooler
8Gb Corsair Venegance
Samsung 250 Gb SSD
MSI 660 GTX Twin Forzr

Any help will be apprecieted, thanks!

The switch is internal to the PSU, it has nothing to do with the rest of the system. It should be an actual physical disconnection, and it seems as if there's a short inside the switch.

Basically, the switch on the PSU is defective.

Thanks, I understand.

Just your personal opinion, doyou suggest to have it replaced?

The issue is not really bothering (some PSU don't even have such back switch) so is it safe to keep itor the short could be danguerous and result in problems during prolonged use?

Thanks

It should not affect your PSU in any way. The switch does not have any safety features, it's for when you want to work on your computer without unplugging the power cord.

Or you need to force a shutoff of your computer, which you can do by unplugging the power cord.

Thanks for your precious comment, I'll think a few days to keep it or return it.

I'd be kind of worried if it's just a little piece of wire or something shorting the switch. If you try to pull to much through it, it could cause a fire. Highly unlikely, but it could happen. I'd RMA it.

Maybe the coil spring between the plastic rocker and the pivoting metal contact inside is out of alignment, or maybe the plastic next to the pivot is broken. I'd replace the PSU because poor contact causes voltage drop and heating, sometimes enough to melt the plastic, and we're talking about high voltage here.
