e8400cpu, 2x 260 all running standard clock. 1 hard drive, 1 cd rom. how much power do i need in overall wattage? i saw something that suggested that 600w psu is enough to get it done.

600 watts should be enough. I'd get a Corsair HX620 or something along those lines. What PSU do you have now?
 
Providing your PSU is a quality unit (I'm not familiar with NZXT models so I can't say one way or another), it will be able to cope with your system fine. Look up some reviews for the PSU where it was tested up to its full rating (in other words, tested with a 600W load) and see how it fared. If it didn't do well, then I suggest you take a look at a new PSU like the HX620 Dan mentioned, the Corsair TX750, or even the HX520 or VX550. Any of those will be able to power your system as well.
