PSU Recommendation

Hello all,

I'm having trouble deciding on a power supply. I'm mainly concerned about not enough or too much power and getting something that will last for this build, any later upgrades, and even a build or two after that. If I could find something that is quiet, somewhat modular and doesn't moonlight as a space heater I would be very grateful.

IB 3770K
Mid-High End Kepler or 7970
16 GB ram
2x 128 gb SSD
2x 2 TB HD or 1x 4 TB HD
1 blu ray drive, maybe additional bluray burner
6 fans and Corsair h100

I'd like to have enough wiggle room to sli/xfire in the future. I was thinking 750w was the right amount, but Newegg's psu calc seems to think I need over 900w.

I am looking at something like http://www.amazon.com/Kingwin-Lazer...sr_1_sc_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1329663247&sr=8-1-spell

I appreciate any suggestions on the wattage and power supply. Thank you!

I plugged in your numbers on Corsair's website and it stated that you need > 950w, that's if you decided to go SLI/Crossfire.

But this is based on using an Intel i7-2600k and the 69xx, since they haven't updated with the 7xxx series and don't have IB in their profiles.

Here is the link: http://www.corsair.com/learn_n_explore/?psu=yes

My next build is most likely going to be the Corsair AX series, since it's fully modular.

I think you're spot on with 750 W if you will x-fire the 7970's. Remember, that IB CPU should draw less power than it's SB equivalent.

Since Seasonic is the OEM for the AX, you could also look at the X-750/760.

Both(newegg's and Corsair's) calculators are complete and utter trash.. in fact is hard to find one that isn't, your best bet would be the OCN calculator made by Phaedrus... anyway, if you have a basic understanding of hardware and workloads you can do a better job calculating your power requirements than any online calculator ever will.

750W is indeed a good margin and the PSU you picked is excellent(probably the best on the market at that output range) and can also function as a 850/900W Gold unit(great regulation, great ripple/noise suppression and just a minor drop in efficiency), but not great value at 200$ when you can get the 1KW version from here at 180$(monster deal) ;)
