For the machine I'm builidng I figure I'll need a PSU in the range of 500W-600W, but it's been nearly 3 years since my last build and I'm unsure of the current trends in the PSU market.

Here's the core power hungry parts:

Evga 8800 GTS 320mb
Intel q6600
4-5 Harddrives

Any suggestions on brand/model would be greatly appreciated!

One other noteworthy thing is I'm not interested in SLI, and I know that plays a large factor as well. Preferably I'd like to get the best bang for my buck here, I'm not trying to get the top of the line PSU, just the most reliable for the money.

I'll start the slew of recommendations for the CorsairHX. :) It's cheap.. :p

Or True Power Trio, as that's pretty cheap as well. Not completely sure as to your budget.

I'm trying to keep the psu price below 150, I've been looking at that one since I've been reading these forums.. Do you think the 520 would be adequate or would I be safer with the 620?

I wouldn't buy them from newegg, and I wouldn't buy the 560.

Newegg is overcharging. deadeyedata should have it for less (especially with coupon code jonnyguru).

Oh..huh, silverstones came down in price. It's been much too long since I've looked at them.

Good stuff

Thanks for the advice and the website

Looks like I'll be getting a Silverstone then. How much power should I go for: The 560Watt strider at $86 or the more powerful 600Watt @ $108 or 750 @ $136?

Again thanks for the sweet website and the help :)

Edit: Then again would it be preferable to have the single 12V rail of the olympia?

560w is enough for your setup but it doesn't hurt to go bigger and futureproof your psu in case you might add some hardware later on

I love single 12v rails. 650watts will be plenty for you. That it all.

that depends on how many amps the supply provides to the 12 v rail.

not familiar with the olympia, pc power and cooling are great I have NEVER had one fail in 75 builds done with them, also I think silver stone now has ONE PSU with a single 12V rail, I highly recommend a psu with a single 12v rail, seasonics are also good power supplies

The Olympia line is all single rail designs.

I have had great luck with Enermax, but the Liberty 620 get's awful reviews. Lots of people have had issues with it. The Liberty 400 and 500 are great, if that wattage suits your needs.

Otherwise, stick with the usual suspects like Seasonic, Corsair, etc.
