I've got an old ABIT KN-8 Socket 939 motherboard with an Athlon X2 in it.
I put it in an old 2u rackmount case and went and ordered a 2u psu from ebay for it.
It's an istar 460W psu.
Now I hook everything up, plug in the connector and the motherboard leds come on. Hit the power switch and the fans start blowing. However nothing shows up on the screen. I also have to hold the power switch to turn it off, normally during the BIOS sequence I can just hit the power button once and it'll turn off. So I'm pretty sure its the computer not booting, not just my video card not working. I tested with a separate video card and comfirmed this.
Anyway I swap out an old 350W psu that I have and it works just fine.
Naturally I assume the ebay psu I got is broken. But then I hook it up to another machine and power it on and it works. The second machine is an old dual pentium 3 motherboard.
This is really bizare and I'm not sure what to make of it. Has anyone had a similar experience and have any idea what could possibly be going on?
