PSU intake vent

Hi. I'm in the process of buying a new case and I've run into an unknown. I'd like to mount my PSU on thew bottom with the intake facing down. My PSU fan is 120mm, but most vents I see are smaller than that.

Questions:
1. Can anyone suggest a full size case with 120mm psu intake fan vent? Preferable with a removable filter?

2. if not, will it put too much load on the fan if say the 120mm fan is trying to suck air through a 80mm vent?

I dont think it would hurt it to much, but, the more air it gets the better.

I like my Raven 3 case, is a crud to wire nicely, but is a very good cooling, keeps dust down, decently quiet, nice looking case when its all done, and lots of room to wire in, if you take the time to do it.

Another might be the Enermax Fulmo line, apprently really nice cases as well.

I have a corsair 800D and it is set up like your wanting. This isn't exactly a new design but every time I work in this case it amazes me how well thought out it is. They are very big! which I like but if that's not your thing stay away because you have to eat your Wheaties to pick these things up!

I must say that most modern cases sold today provides plenty of vented and filtered intake area for a bottom-mounted PSU with the fan pulling from below.

80mm vents? What case are you seeing that on?

Corsair C70, 300R, 400R, 500R, 550D, 650D, 600T, 800D - have it.

Likewise CoolerMaster HAF-Series cases.

NZXT Phantom, Switch, etc..

Fractal Design... the list goes on.

If it's new enough to have USB 3.0 ports, it's probably got a filtered bottom PSU intake.

Thanks for the info.
I was just throwing a number out there for the vent size. My last case, rosewill challenger, had a small vent. It was filterwed, but only abouy 3/4 the size of my intake fan. I ended up mounting the psu with the intake facing up because of the reasons I stated above.

Hey - I do understand your basic point. I have an older Corsair HX1000W PSU, it's huge (200mm long) and has a 140mm fan. In my CM Storm Scout (original, not the new Scout 2) - the opening in the bottom doesn't line up very well with the fan. However, I've had 3 years without problems - I wouldn't worry.

Also - most cases today have the PSU elevated a bit on little bumpers so that it doesn't rest directly on the bottom of the case. That way, even if everything isn't lined up perfectly it still gets enough air.

its going to be hard to find a case with what you want, and i wouldnt base a case off this specific need.
my silver stone tj09's bottom vent is not the size of my psus fan, but i have had no issues.
the air is still going to be pulled in and with fresh air coming in, versus air from the case, you wont have to worry about your psu getting hot even with a smaller vent.
all you have to worry about is dust.

my raven 3 has a full size intake for the psu, not a problem with that. However, because everything "hangs" there could be some issues with non standard heatpipes not cooling as they should.

for me
Raven 3 with 1 extra fan at front for intake over hard-drive, 1 scythe slipstream 110cfm top exhaust
hyper 212+ push/pull
955BE clocked to 4.15@1.43v temps max 52c benchmark loaded 46c max 100% gaming load
MSI Twin Frozr III Radeon 7870 clocked and volted 1185/5750 1.6v PT 20%
corsair HX750

temps are always very good, gpu rarely hits 60c, cpu only LynX loaded ever hits mid 50c range. While I admit it was a bit time consuming for wiring, and hate taking the top off to open it to get front filters off, it has its quirks, but I love the look, the space, the cooling, and how clean it stays, only 1 time in the 2 years or so I have owned it have I taken it apart somewhat to give it a good dusting. The one mod that it can easily accomplish is having a full size rad on the back of it provided you don`t mind modding the case some to open the rear grill or something for the tubing for a sick watercooling rig, lots of room, if you take the time to do it.
