I bought this PSU in Jan 06. I left my pc on standby and went to get back on it a few minutes ago and it would not turn on. The led light on the motherboard isnt even on. The only thing I can think of is the PSU. Are these things that unreliable? It isn't really under a big load: 1 HD, 1 dvd drive, 7800gt, amd 3500, and only a x-fi in a pci slot.

they aren't neccessarily unrealiable, sometimes they just fail, even the expensive ones.
Maybe there was a power spike or maybe it's fine. Get a power supply tester and find out.
