PSU and OC'ing

I've just started getting into the fine tuning aspect of my 2500k's OC and want to make sure my PSU is not a culprit in holding me back from reaching the gold #. (5ghz)

I've spent the last 2 evenings scouring the webs, reading, reading, and re-reading other people's experiences with these chips and getting up to speed with my motherboard's BIOS.

I started with the basic steps i.e., disabling all necessary features in BIOS, then upping the multi until I hit the "wall", which was 4.6@ stock voltages.

I've since started tinkering with voltages, etc., and been able to boot @ 5ghz but it doesn't last much longer than 10 seconds after my desktop appears.

Now that I've rambled on, I'll get to my question: Other than the fact that I'm pretty much just getting to know my BIOS, and becoming familiar with the 1155/P67 platform how might my PSU be holding me back from getting a better OC? I'm using an Antec Earthwatts 650 and it has been an AWESOME PSU generally speaking. My last system was built around an AMD 1090t and I was able to run my chip at 3.8 and leave my 2 6850's overclocked to the max speeds the AMD overclocking utility alowed. My new/current system is in sig.

Any thoughts/insults/help would be appreciated. :p

Looks like your temps are a little high. You may have run out of cooling capacity more than power capacity. If it's me, 70* is kind of my target max temp (give or take a smidge).

I'm not a big fan of sweating too many details. But I can tell you switching to IC7 thermal paste dropped my CPU temps 5* and allowed me an extra 200mHz overclock on top of what I already had. AS5 wasn't cutting it.

Outside of that, not being that familar with SB, I can't tell you for sure--But maybe check around and see if the magic 5gHz you're looking for is more commonly achieved on water cooling.

Yeah...I'm just 100% paranoid about PSU. I'm sure my chip isn't in that >1% that reaches 5ghz stable. I think I'm just gonna be happy with 4.6 and call it a day. I still can't get over the tittie factor of this Samsung RAM...
 
You using LLC at all? If not, it might allow you to drop the voltages a touch more.
After about 30 reboots trying to get 4.8-5 stable I pretty much called it a night...I'm gonna do some more reading and adjusting this weekend though. I atleast have my everyday usage clocks figured out...if I can squeeze anymore out it will just be for the pure enjoyment of tinkering.
 
Can't see the screenshots at work, but do you have Internal PLL Overvoltage enabled? If not, that can often give you another two multipliers or so.
 
If your MB BIOS has LLC tweaking you should be able to lower your voltage quite a bit. If not you should still be able to lower voltage.

With 46x you should be able to go at least as low at 1.37v.

Set PLL voltage to around 1.8v. What is your In/out voltage setting? Not at desktop right now but there are 3 key voltages that seem to make the most difference for stability on my MB bios. I don't have LLC settings though. LLC settings make a big difference for lowering voltage and temps.

I can't recall at the moment...what do you mean by "in/out" voltages...I know I tried a number of combinations and saved the most efficient...I'm gonna mess around with voltages some more this evening though.
