Just to relate my experience of the past few hours.

Just for the heck of it, wanted to run 3dmark01 to see how it ran at 1900X1080. Would not work. Kept crashing out with "fatal error: failed to validate material" messages. I completely uninstalled and reinstalled Nvidia drivers 3 times- running driver cleaner in safe mode- to no avail. Even went so far as to attempt a system restore, which fortunately would not work.

Started manually taking out anything I've changed in the past 2 weeks. Uninstalled acrobat reader, and now works fine.

I think the 3d acceleration feature of the reader may be buggy, or competing with other 3d apps. The reader loads a process on startup when it's installed, acroread or something to that effect. Even if you disable the auto load, it will stay memory resident after you've opened and closed an acrobat document.

Killing it fixed my problems. YMMV.
