Some users have recently had their accounts hijacked. It seems that the now defunct EVGA forums might have compromised your password there and seems many are using the same PW here. We would suggest you UPDATE YOUR PASSWORD and TURN ON 2FA for your account here to further secure it. None of the compromised accounts had 2FA turned on.
Once you have enabled 2FA, your account will be updated soon to show a badge, letting other members know that you use 2FA to protect your account. This should be beneficial for everyone that uses FSFT.
PS/2 has a polling rate of 60hz This is fine for keyboards.
USB has a polling rate of 120hz.
This matters for mousing since the higher the frequencey, the more often the computer gets updated movement data. This allows for that added smootheness when playing games.
Yeah, you can clock your PS/2 polling rate up to 90hz, but it eats up far more cpu time than just using USB.
Really, just use a USB mouse, and only get a keyboard if needed. Just make sure each one has its own dedicated USB port, nothing sharing it.
PS/2 is a dedicated, low-level bus, employing a simple point-to-point communication protocol. It has been in use for a couple of decades now, is widely supported and has been debugged to the point that it's pretty much perfect.
USB is a shared, high-level bus, employing a relatively complex communication protocol. It is subject to latency and bandwidth issues, something which is not possible with PS/2.
Because PS/2 is implemented as a low-level bus, it uses almost no CPU-cycles. It supports a wide range of refreshrates, far beyond what any human will ever need (unless you want to tell me that humans have changed that much since the 1980s).
USB is not as widely supported as PS/2 is. On many systems one simply needs to use a PS/2 keyboard, because the BIOS is otherwise not accessible, as are bootdisk and similar which do not support USB.
My advice is to use the PS/2 port for the keyboard and either PS/2 or USB for the mouse.
Yeah I am with Elledan on this while going all USB can be OK I have heard of people not being able to enter things like the windows installation RAID setup with USB keyboards.
