PS2 Controller USB Adapter issue

Hi, I just bought a USB Adapter for my ps2 controller, maybe you guessed from the topic. Well, I plug the thing in and windows sees it and activates it and all. I try playing some games and I notice there's a noticable delay in response to the buttons I press. I figure that maybe I do in fact need to use the drivers that are packed with it. Well, those did no good as they made me literally unable to run anything in mame and for some reason also got Outlook to crash anytime I ran it.

After removing the drivers I'm pretty much back at a badly working adapter.

My question is does anyone know why there's this delay and if it's possible to get rid of it?

I'm on an old 1.2ghz with 384mb ram if that's of any use.
