So, I have been chasing my tail on random hard lockups and other weirdness with my pc. At first I thought these lockups could be attributed to Vista, but they seem to follow a pattern -- Generally during CPU intensive tasks, spinning up the DVDRW or the second drive in my system. By no means am I a hardcore gamer, though I do fire up LOTRO on occasion.

Currently, I use the raidmax supply that came with my case. It fit the bill with my original build, but I have this annoying habit of upgrading every few months..

My current system --

ECS 570 SLIT-A sli mobo
C2D E4400
2 gb ram (2 1 gig sticks)
400gb hard disk
160gb hard disk
EVGA 8600GTS PCI-e video card

3x case fans and internal LED lighting.

What would be an ideal power supply (hopefully under $100) I am guessing I need at least a 550w..

Thanks,

Tracy

I doubt you need more than the 450 watt corsair power supply to power your current system. You could plan to get a bigger one (520 or greater) if you plan to run a bigger card such as a Nvidia 8800GTX or an sli rig. Corsair has a power supply calculator on there power supply page. Here is a link to it:

Have a nice day.
