Vortez has just finished up a review of the Prolimatech Super Mega heatpipe HSF today and have concluded that, not only is it super, it is mega too. ;)

Moving on three years from then, Prolimatech have made tweaks to their design and are ready to take on the top coolers once again with their new ultimate Super Mega iteration, this time facing the Noctua NH-D14, Thermalright Silver Arrow and Venomous X.
 
I'll wait to hold judgement until the Ultra comes out. :p

Seriously though, looks like Prolimatech have another winner on their hands. I like the copper fins - adds character (and arguably helps performance). If I didn't already have a NH-D14, I might consider this.

so basically what I got from this review is that the venomous x is the best since its about 1 degree off the best cooler but takes up a lot less room.

I can vouch for how awesome it is. I don't break 70c at 4.2ghz under prime95 small fft full load.
 
Common fellas, let's be honest- this race to own the biggest HSU + super mega jumbo 777 fan is all compensation!

I'm using a dinky Arctic Freezer 7 (yeah, 3 count'em 3 pipes!) + stock fan and shroud on a Q8400 OC to 3.44GHz.

After running Prime 95, 4 threads, small FFT, for 10 minutes...the results at 23 C ambient:

RealTemp 3.00- maximum temp recorded: 63C on one core, 61, 50, 58.
Coretemp .99.8: maximum temp recorded: 60C on one core, 58, 56, 53.

HwMonitor 1.17: max temp recorded: 59 C on one core, 59, 57, 55.

Just FYI, system temp in Hwmonitor: 39C max.

The secret? POSITIVE CASE PRESSURE. (140 mm Fans + filtrete filters).

Once again, it's not how BIG it is...it's how you USE IT.
 
I read the review and it sounds like it sucks. It's more expensive and doesn't preform better. I'm still trying to figure out how it got a silver award.

No, the secret is you're running a processor at 3.4Ghz. You're probably running near stock voltage too. Turn it up to 5Ghz and then we'll talk. I was screwing around with a 2500K last week for a friend. Going from 4.5 to 5 Ghz with a bump from 1.4 to 1.5V on a 2500K last week that I was was a difference of 14 degrees, (max 83C). Backing off to 4.5V and 1.4V and I was in the 70Cs. Good luck doing that with a ACF7.

Maybe if you got a better cooler you could do a REAL overclock ;) I'm sure I would have struggled more to get my i5 750 up to 4GHz if I didn't go with the Megahalems. Or the i7 930s with 24gb ram might not be running at 3.9GHz without the D14 coolers on them. They're all in cases with good airflow, but you still need a big CPU cooler if you want to crank it up ;)

Positive case pressure is nothing special. You just want air flowing past the general direction of the cooler, fresh air being brought in and warm air being taken away... like most decent cases are designed these days. The main reason I go "positive pressure" is to reduce the dust that gets into my case as all my input fans have filters on them.

Anyway, I'm surprised the review didn't compare it to the Megahalems.
 
Should I be worried about the CPU experiencing relativistic effects with something that heavy nearby ?
