had a crazy idea so i built it.i had a crappy pair of usb powered speakers.so i stole the little amp out of it,and built it into a small aluminum project box.its no power house, but it sounds alot better, and plays alot louder than the original speakers it came out of.:D

Uh oh, someone's just been bitten by the diy bug. Careful, because if left unchecked, it's an addicting, and potentially expensive hobby :D (unless you're already an addict of course !). I recognize those radioshack speakers with the tweeter up top, they were pretty popular not too long ago. Great job with the mod :)

Care for some more related info ? Well whether you wanted it or not, here's some fuel for the addiction:

DIYaudio's DIY speaker forum, Class D amp forum, chip amp forum, solid state amp forum, tube amp forum and their their main forum index.

AVSforums' DIY audio forum

Some sources of inexpensive pre-assembled Class D amps: Sureelectronic's Ebay and Webstore (the TA2024 sounds very clean !) And here's a newer ebay merchant with some interesting stuff.

Some inexpensive powersupplies.

Enjoy :D

thanks for the links.to late really ive been addicted to diy for some time now.its more rewarding in my opinion.its one thing to go out to a shop, and buy an amp.its totally different when ya build one.ive already got another project lined up:D its gonna be a bigger amp to replace my main stereo reciever with.

Heh, someone's going to be needing a soldering iron and a copy of Horowitz...:D

I dont recommend drawing more power from a PC's / laptops PSU than necessary as they wear faster.
Better to use an external PSU to power the amp if you want a sound system with decent power.
You can use an overrated PSU for peace of mind.
I'm not sure how it would affect the sound quality though as accurate low frequency response isnt something a PC's PSU is designed for.
Use large buffered capacitors on the amps power input stage to handle the lower frequency dynamic response of the amp.

NP, thanks for posting.

Note that the amps i linked are pretty much pre-assembled though, just a coupla screws + washers (included) and a separate psu are all thats needed, and an enclosure i guess ;)

You can always fashion an enclosure from some exotic lumber (ebay), would look spiffier than most of the common metal enclosures imho.
