Word of caution- First post. If the pictures are too big, let me know, i can resize.

Alrrrright. So, im not a fairy, just to clear that up. My sister gets all of my handmedowns, and since i just built a new rig for myself, she gets the old P4. However, the case is kind of...well. Plain. Her entire room is pink and lime green, and the vast majority of it glows under blacklighting. For her computer to run, it needs RAM, which is currently in my pc. (Budget constraints) I have convinced the parents that if i can make a kickass case that will match her room, they should give me enough money for half a gig of Crucial RAM and probably enough for a new HSF for the Athlon 64. PLUS theyl cover the expenses for the case, since this is indeed going to be my first mod. So right now, im looking for suggestions. I have a couple ideas, but maybe you visionarys can help me, eh?

First up- the room itself.

Notice the blue screen of death on her current computer. Yeah. No good. All of the pink/green frilly fuzz stuff is all UV reactive, as are the beads, and the desk kindof is.

Again, almost everything green is UV reactive. The sign that says DANI is VERY UV reactive. I tried to get a picture of all of it with just the UV, but it didnt turn out so hot.

Now- the case

Im thinking all of that is going to be pink. I might make the optical drives lime green, but im not sure yet. Rocker switches to control the UV cold cathodes that are going in. Opinons? Sggestions?

Im thinking...yeah. Window. Big window. Not sure if it should be L or box shaped...this is my first time with a dremel. An 80 mm fan green fan somewhere in there, possibly UV reactive... Same thing...Suggestions?

Going to sleeve all the cables and round the IDE that you cant see in there, probably a lime green UV sleeving. Throw in UV cold cathodes to make the aforementioned sleeving glow. Now, the thumper- The inside of the case. For one, i have NO idea how to get everything out to paint. Secondly, im not sure which color? Should i go pink, to make good contrast with the green sleeving? Or should i have it all green to contrast the pink case?

ALSO- Should the painting itself be UV reactive? Or is that overboard?

I dont have a picture of the top right now, but im going to put an 80 mm blowhole that will have a green LED fan in it.

So far, thats all ive got. Im going to pick up a dremel, plexi, and paint, if i can decide on the UV question. If not, drill first, then decide on paint schemes.
 
I think the room is already overboard, an all UV case probably wont stand out very much. :)
 
you should spray the inside of the case with uv reactive paint, and put some uv lights inside.
 
Dude next time you post pics like that, give a warning I almost went into a seizure.

I think you should shoot your sister for having such an ugly room but that's my opinion. I've seen rocker switches (green, red, and blue LED) at Wallmart in the automotive section for $5 each. That should save you some money from having to order them online.

The pink with green drives sound good. Just make sure you do a quality job and use primer and clearcoat as well.
 
That front panel is plastic? I'd go vinyl dye with it, and maybe even do a care-bear rainbow in the front (like the one on her bed)...
 
How would one go about dyeing plastic? Ive seen all sorts of guides to cutting, but never dying.

And yeah. Shes 13. I hate the room as well, it used to be mine before they massacared it as a "home improvement" project. Improvement. HAH.

The only reason im doing it is because i want to do some themed case modding and...well. This seems easy enough.
 
If you want to do it cheap, try UV paint like this person did. Instead of buying rounded cables buy a 3/8 wire loom, fold the wires 2 times in half (half, than half again), and that should fit, UV the wire loom.

Let your sister draw the design inside, that should save you some time. Make sure she's grounded though, what a waste if she's running around with socks on a carpet!

Square plexi glass window would be fine, make sure to get some tubing to cover the edges (forgot what mod that was).
 
um, I say go with the pink outside and green drives, that sounds good. On the inside, I think all pink with the green UV loom, etc would look good - btw, if you havent thought of it, they have UV molex connectors as well. They sell green UV rounded IDE cables, so I wouldn't waste my time with normal loom. I don't think the whole inside should be UV, that would just be WAY TOO much. I wouldn't go with dye on the front...The colors almost surely wouldn't match. There are quite a few paint threads around here, so I'm sure you can find some good tips on painting the plastic.

also, for the window...I think square would be just dandy. Little tip...jigsaw. for cutting large areas, its so much easier to use a jigsaw with a metal cutting blade (you can get a jigsaw at harbor freight or home depot for like 15 bux anyway) than it would be with a dremel.
 
While you are messing around with her PC, install Ad-Aware, Spybot and set up weekly tasks to get rid of all the shit that 13yr olds innevitebly contaminate PC's with. I'm sure you and your parents will appreciate it.

FYI, you can usually get vinyl dye at auto stores like Autozone. It's basically spraypaint and works similar to Krylon Fusion by bonding the paint to the plastic. I don't know if you are going to get some UV CCFL's but that would probably be a good idea as well. SVC and elwirecheap.com are great places to get them from for cheap (sleeving is at great prices at svc too).
 
Right now im leaning mainly towards the design stuff that seige had. Tommorow im going to the store to buy sandpaper...what grit should i get? Im new to that.

I was going to get the dremel today, but i realized im in $600 worth of credit card debit for the move from old-ass p4 to A64 and a 9800... i forgot i had that money sitting somewhere else. Scared the crap out of me untill i rememberd that. Kroger doesnt pay THAT well. Or well at all.

Ah, well. What grits?
 
bleh, case needs to be as flambouyant as the room!

as for your drilling/cutting delema, try drawing everything out and than brining it to a hardware store. some rent out their equipment, or if you can find a very friendly person there they can cut it for you. if you do it fast, and plan it out in advance so you can go straight to work, it might be a bit cheaper if than buying it for 1 mod.

I say 80, 120, and 200 before paint, but I'm no expert.

OLD p4? damn, I guess that means my freakin 1.3ghz t-bird I just got is a dinosaur :)
 
Dye = Vinyl dye... The same stuff you use on flexible auto parts so the paint won't crack up. It is still paint, but that's what they call it. Shrug.
