Ok. so first off on this worklog this is just me building a new desk for my computer..
I work with wood all day at my job so I figured I'd build myself a new computer desk since I'm moving out soon and my current desk is attached to the wall...
so far I have only come up with a rough design for the top part of the desk.. ok now for some pictures.. this is more in a planning phase right now.. I'll be ordering the the birch later on this week hopefully..
ok.. so for some pictures..

I'll start off with a picture of my current desk.. which I also built.. but its nothing fancy.. just a quick through together when I moved into this house. this is a rather old picture also.. no longer using that case or those speakers.

This is the basic layout for the top of the desk its a little rough.. but I was just messing around in photoshop..
I'm working on coming up with the design for the legs and drawer system on the desk.. I'll post some pictures of those when I come up with them.. any thoughts so far on this would be helpful..

ok here is kind of what I am thinking for the legs on this desk.. tell me whatcha think. still coming up with the corner support design

I suggest you rethink the top of the desk. Desks that "close you in" too much are difficult to live with because you want/need room to roll around a little in your chair. I look at your design and cringe at how difficult it would be to retreive a dropped pen or something from under the desk, and how much the desk would chew at my leather chair.

Anyway, it's hard to say much more than that because there's no relative scale and no layout, but that was my first impression.

mmm like i said its more in the design stages.. the curves in the top of the desk will be more streched out.. just haven't gotten around to doing it all to scale.

You may want to go with a flatter bottom on the legs of the desk. Otherwise, you get a lot of very localized pressure on the feet, which might do nasty things to whatever floor your desk will stand on.

yah what they said.

and remember, keep it simple. Sure, a whole lotta curves wil look nice, but trust me when things are much easier to draw than make well.

I like the design, I agree with lame about making the curve more 'shallow' for confort, and since i am a righty, I would consider using a 'mirror' image of your design, with the big round support for the mouse-hand.

Dont forget a hole or something to pass the cables through (if the computer sits below the table). Oh, yeah, I would build a 'shelf' under the desk to keep the computer.
You want your computer close enough that you can change CDs, turn it on/off etc without having to move, but you dont want a loud computer with lots of fans 3 ft from your ear. A custom shelf that keeps the box off the floor, under the desk and close at hand is a possible solution. Example, my wife's shuttle sits on top of the sub-woofer (hehe, one of these days, her HD will die and I will be: "hmm I wonder what happened... well, I will get you a new, bigger HD, wait, i need one too :D").

Now, if you keep it under the desk, everytime you are changing something, or somethig breaks in the PC or you are attaching a new USB something, you will need to get under the desk and even behind the PC, so i would make the shelf accesible and/or moveable. A slide-out tray could work. A mechanical arm that stores your pc under the table but that can move out and up to a desk-level high would be incredibly handy and cool  (like those desk lamps with springs that stay in place when you move them, only upside down).

My 2 cents.

Yea I am aware of the design flaws and what not.. just trying to figure out some designs.. I'll scan what I've draw out... makes a whole lot more sense then trying to do it in photoshop.. I'll eventually get around to putting it into cad... thnx for the input thus far.

id say a shallow type of curve would be good, but dont put a computer under the table. Computers under tables are stupid, i mean we spend all this time modding our cases only to hide them under a desk? Na. Make sure its plenty big enough for the case to sit on the desk top where it belongs, along with being wide enough so your speakers get ideal stereo seperation, and make sure it has plenty of foot room.

Yeah, but maybe not all of us mod our computers to be extra shiny and flash and buzz and whir. Personally, I'd rather have something elegant and functional, and what I do mod always has a functional purpose.

@ bmx
Yea my pc won't be under my desk.. and the curve deff isn't going to be that drastic...

QFT :D my thoughts exactly.. I've been there and done the flashiness... to much effort.. simple, clean and effective.. thats all my cases need.

I am too, this is my case. It does have blue cathodes, but the flash drowns them out. The chevette heatercore is in the front, and i cut out all but one of the hard drive cages. Hmm you cant attach pics here, that sucks. Luckily i can host it

looks like you could use some more airflow on that case.. lol...

anyways finishing up the sketches of the desk on paper I'll have them up later on tonight or tomorrow. so stay tuned if ya like ;)
