It took alittle to see without the flash. After sanding however you can only see it if you rotate it to about 45 degrees. I applied the second coat today, so i doubt it will be there any more.

Yes the tree of life (sephiroticum) isn't perfect. It was basicly free hand, and yes it suppose to look like that. It is an art decision, i wanted to look like someone wrote it. Also the corner are like that because i tested the glue i used. It removed the metal cast paint, it has alcohol in it. It wouldn't bond so i will look for some different tomorrow.

? How do u mean, Silver? I have seen so many silver and black cases before I wanted something different. My last case was silver and all dells are black. When i picked the paint out I was worried that the light blue wouldn't look good but now its on I think it is greet.
 
Wow. When I saw the heading "Evangelion case mod" I became worried. Was someone going to butcher one of my favorite anime series' onto one of my favorite cases? No, this is going well so far. I want to see where this is headed (and I LOVE the idea of a blue outside/red inside. Better stick the NERV logo somewhere). And the etching work so far? It's fabulous. I applaud you.

Looky a second coat.

Didn't bother taking pics of every thing again. Second coat looked good. they were sanded smooth and some got clear coated otheres got other things.

Here are some parts i got painted. they were the 120 fan holders and pci slot screwless holder things. Also some of the mounting rails. They were some horrible purple and green color so they are now red to match the inside.

paint looks nice and smooth. i love that etch. did you have a picture under it or next to it to go by, or just make it up?

i like that blue color. can't wait to see more of this case.

surprisingly & ironically, I just started watching Eva this week.

Weird that being a fan of anime that I had never seen it before now. Only heard of it. But since they released the Platinum version of it, I bought Disc 1 with collectors box. Today even though I've yet to finish the first disc, will be getting Disc 2.

Enough of my nonsense rambling though. Love the case! Only thing I would have done would have been maybe an off-white or grey case color to accent the red, but that's me. :)
 
Update 1/18/05

Finally an update. Finished the clear, sanded with high grits, and applied some rubbing compound. Looks good. Has a nice finish but will not refeeclt too much.

When clear coated the blue deepens alot. It still is too ligth to gain a mirror you would with black or so.

The red evangelion stood out way too much. So i had to spray it with the blue and sanded until a good outline came out.

Outside is a nice light blue color. Don't know how much reflection I'll get from such a light color but hey, I think it looks nice. Also got my aluminum fan paint plus the front panel of a LV System LIS 2 blue eyes LCD. Did i mention I got a LV system LIS 2 Blue LCD? :D

Trust me, I didn't.

As for updates, well a very critical part I orders got routed from Cali to IL then back to Cali so I got to wait to move forward. This sucks but I do have some new paint shots I will post later but this part is going to hold me back until I get it.

I have been keeping tabs on this tread, and may I say EXCELLENT WORK! One thing that I need to clear up, is on the case door. I believe that you BONDOed some of it right? Well it looks kinda like where you bondoed it might need a little clearing up. Its right in the middle of the case, to the right hand side. It may bery well be something else, but thats just all I noticed. Other than that this is such a sweet project.
 
Yeah, it was where the power/reset buttons were. Since I relocated them i removed the buttons and smothed it. There was a little dimple but I went back and added some bondo. It r smooth now.

Thx, its this Metalcast I found it at Wal-Mart in automotive section with the waxes and such. Its also at auto zone and advance with the paints. The Auto stores have more cans and more colors, wal mart only had like 3 of the colors but they were like 2 dollars cheaper. I found the red, blue, and green at Wal. On to the new stuff.

For those not informed the cross is found throughout Eva. First, second, and third reference two different things. It makes reference to the children and the impacts. The orange symbol looking thing, well here.

This is Evangelion Unit 01 piloted by the third child. It is a screen from "The End of Evangelion." As the unit is being crucfied starting the third impact. That is enough of an explaination and this is the best my very poor art skills could do. Its hard to see but i painted the bezel thick and did some random heating to crack and basicly make the paint look very rough. I wanted a decay look like stuff was coming undone as the way the begining of the thrid impact was. Its like the anime, the outside of all most of the characters appear clean,(outer case) calm,(blue) and in order. But inside they are slowly wasting away, (inside bezel) and in constant tourmoil,(red inside) while their trying to find thier true selfs locked inside.(Eva figure) Ok enough of the crap analyist of Eva. here are some shots.

If u can't see it there is a radiator attached to the back. Yes I am going to dive into watercooling. I still need to figure a way to create a shroud that will easily detact. I am going to flip the fans to intake through the radiator and exhaust through the front. So some parts.

The part i refered to earlier that is in Cali while I'm in VA is my pump. So I have to wait a while to get moving again. Thats all for know folks.
 
nice... the NERV logo is a little rough, maybe touch up with little paintbrush. Inside the door doesn't match with external, a little to unrefined IMO. Maybe use a big sticker of one of the angels if you can find one.
 
Personally the color scheme isn't my thing, but it's your case and your taste so i won't bash it, but mad props on the window, that looks amazing.

Yeah, I know. This is my first mod so I have gained valuable knowledge.
I am out of time. I am at home now for winter break. I have to go back to my apartment on Mon. That means no power tools, no room to paint, and still really cold. My pump is being shipped to my house by the 27th; so it will have to be shipped to my apartment after that. In the spring I will probably sand down and repaint the bezel. A few more updates to come, stay tuned.
 
I'm really looking forward to assembly and finishing touches on this case. No, you haven't ruined my favorite anime, but you may have created a case that belongs in the top ten of my favorites. Not just for Evangelion, but for that painstaking etching of the Tree of Life/Paths to Divinity (and whatever else it is called)
