Project: Crappy Raidmax

Damn I worked on one of those last year, I thought those side fans were DIY'd by the customer, didn't realize it was actually rolled out of the factory like that, I'd make the side window bigger (makes it look like a toaster oven from the side), and put the fans inside the case as exhaust fans.

Cut out the back grills.

Get a good sleeved PSU for it (unless you've got one)

Put a nice bay device in it.

Perhaps light the plexiglass front... Dim SMD LED's will do the trick, and would be easy to embed in the frame.

Put on some nice audio style case feet... P-PC's has them for 6$.

Wire up those side fans nicer...

Rather than doing a blow hole, I'd get a stainless double 120mm rad grill, place it on top, trace around it, then cut the case 1/4" in from the trace with a jigsaw. WAY easier than doing a circular cut, and IMO, better looking. Throw in 2 5v yate loon fans, and any heat problems would be solved. Hell, get the black fans with the orange blades by yate and it'll match your colour scheme. Stainless steel + orange + black = major sexy IMO.

Good luck with painting the outside. Gloss paints are inherently harder to use than regular paints. Sand the entire thing down with 320g sand paper as smooth as you can, but don't do it so much that you can see the grey steel through it.

I Seriously totally agree with his opinion :D

Small update.

I found out you can switch around the cheap plastic shiny things from the bay covers and the front panel, and there are brushed aluminum inserts behind them that you can put in front instead. Observe.

Also, I bought this paint, used no primer, and it looks great so far, still needs a little more. Highly recommended.

This is the little bit of work I got done, ghetto masking:

Please bare with me, it's my first mod.

Looks really good. I really like the krylon matte paints, they've got such a nice colour.

Watched... This is gonna be good. I did the same thing with mu shitty Xblade case that i got with my Cyberpower PC 3 years ago...

Good luck

This is looking great! Keep up the excellent work. Looking forward to seeing how it turns out.

Just a thought for next time, put the case up on some blocks of wood, bricks, an old lunchbox, jack stands, whatever before you paint it. It will help keep it from sticking to your tarp, and will help ensure you get all of the bottom parts and pieces next time you paint it

I love older cases like that, such a blank slate for modding! Still has a nice interior though, rear dual 80's and a front 120 is pretty good for a case like that. I would have cut out the fan grills that restrict airflow before I painted. Good luck!
