Wasn't sure whether this should end up here or in the case mod forum, but mmk! :)
After having space issues inside my main rig, I decide to switch wc'ing setups to something less obstructive(i had 120mm heatercore+fan in top 3 bays) So I changed when I came across a good deal on an innovatek setup:
XX Flow CPU Block
Tank-O-Matic Large Plugon Res
Eheim HPPS Pump
Konvekt-O-Matic Radiaor

Now the downside to this setup is obviously the 8mm ID tubing and the weak eheim pump. When I installed it (even after reseating it twice with fresh coats of as5 each time) I got idle temps of about 47º C, and load temps of about 54º C -> ugly at best. I knew the temps were gonna jump a good bit from my last setup (with polarflo blocks, idled @ 33º C, load @ 41º C), but I wasn't expecting them to run that high... This might not bother some, but to me, anything over 50º C is bad, and I have my computer set to shutdown if it goes over 60º C.

I decided I had to do something about it, because I couldn't stand the temps being higher than the stock HSF had it at.(kind of defeats the whole purpose of paying for a wc system) Anyhow, I kind of glanced around my room for some ideas, and saw my box fan sitting in a corner. I thought it might be worth a try, so I set it up next to my radiator and turned it on. You could just watch the temps drop. It dropped about 5-6º C in 5 minutes. Now my idle temps are 41-42º C, and load temps are around 47º C (slightly better than my stock HSF which was usually, 43I, 49L)

So, although it solved a short-term problem, I'm left with "what do I do?", because obviously I can't just lug the fan around, or keep it sitting there, because that's kind of stupid! So I'm thinking about making a cooler that sits 1/2"-1" off the radiator consisting of something like 4 120mm fans. However, I could use some suggestions and input before I'm 100% decided on what I'd like to do.

You only have a few choices IMHO:

1. Get a bigger passive radiator
2. Add a lot of fans to your passive radiator
3. Keep house air conditioned
4. Ditch the radiator and put in dual BI Pro or bigger with appropriate 120mm fans.

1. Expensive! I got the entire innovatek cooling setup (not cheap!) for less than the retail value of the radiator alone. Which is exactly why I got it. I don't have $200 to blow on a freakin radiator
2. So far that's what I'm planning on doing, I just dont have 100% plan on what I want to do. In one aspect, I was thinking about making a coller that attaches to the side, pushing cooler air from further outside onto the radiator. In another aspect I was thinking about enclosing the radiator in a "boxed sense", where I'd have either 2 120mm's on the side or on the bottom as intake, and two on the top as exhaust.
3. It is, but I'm frequently told my computer is a space heater, my room is generally 5+ º warmer than the rest of the house, save the basement with the woodburner in the winter.
4. $$!

Okay how about running your tubes out the window and hanging the radiator outside. :D

mmk here's an update. I started this a while ago and finally got somewhere.
I bought a sheet of aluminum @ .. I wanna say Menards, maybe it was Lowes. (They robbed me, I paid like $20 for the sheet) Then I measured everything out to what I wanted it, and took it to a friend to have the aluminum cut and bent. Following that I marked my holes and used a 4.5" hole saw ($25 @ HomeDepot) to cut out some holes in it. I've purchased four Asprise 77.26 cfm LED 120mm fans and 4 fan grilles... (got robbed and paid $45 collectively for the fans off the egg, and like $12 for the grilles off xoxide)
What I have left:
Clean up the hole saw cutouts -> sand em smooth
Drill holes for the 16 screws
Paint it, perhaps add a custom Decal (give it a name.. I was thinking like FanWhore 309 (309 is the collective theorized cfm it would push)
Attach it - probably using velcro, I like easily being able to rip things off. For some reason I love velcro (no, I'm not the guy that attached his hsf with velcro :p )
The newest problem: My Antec Truepower 430 had a rear molex connector which would've allowed me to power this setup... my new Tagan 480 does not. So Now I'm wondering what to do (not too worried about it at the moment.. could run a power connector out a pci bracket, or drill a hole in the case (could take the molex off and run the wires through, would be a small hole.. probably under the radiator), or use an external AC/DC wall plugin that converts to standard DC 5v/12v power.. dunno yet.

The height of the cooler allows there to be around 1/2" of space between the fan and the radiator to potentially remove the "center dead spot" (as a shroud would normally do)

Pics - not 56k friendly.

Comments, ideas, criticism, etc, welcomed.

I think that will definitely take care of the problem assuming it isn't getting pretty hot in Ohio right now ;)

Nice shroud. Should take care of your heat problems. Yeah, taking the molex off and running wires through sounds like best idea.

Nice job on your system...

94*F this afternoon. I hate Ohio summers, hot and humid....

yeah it's been humid as hell the last few weeks.. :( My PC acts as a furnace.. it surely doesn't help :p

Hmmm... lots o' Ohio-ans here... never really noticed before.

"No pleasure, no rapture, no exquisite sin greater... than central air."

Switched ISPs and it gave me some time to do the finishing work. Now I'm just waiting on a pci power bracket + molex extender from xoxide before I get some pictures in-action.
Had something that seemed odd to me occur when I attempted to paint the casing. I went to walmart and picked up a couple of cans of car accessory paint, and they wouldn't let me purchase it.. being that I was under 18 and it was an aerosol can... you can own a car at any age, drive when your 16, but can't buy paint for a car you own? Seemed a bit ridiculous, I was half thinking about attempting to purchase a can of RAID roach killer or something... I could just see it! Police chasing after me and tackling me for buying bug spray at the local walmart! you have sinned! Okay, anyways.. enough being pissed at walmart (as I did drive 25 miles at about 1am specifically to buy paint @ walmart after work) I went to Meijer's, and thankfully they don't have the same policy. I asked one of the workers that was in the area "Do you have to be 18 to buy this?" and his response was.. "Why would you have to be 18 to buy car paint?" and I chuckled...
It may not be viewable in the pics.. but I really like the effect on the glossy outer-coating.. looks like a whole bunch of different colors. The grey is a little darker than I had originally wanted.. but it should look fine.

I think gold grilles would've gave it a little better touch, but ah-well

Has a nice look. Just thought of something else that might help out. I seem to recall hearing somewhere that the Innovatek pump has a set of jumpers on it that allows you to increase the flow rate on it. Not sure if your pump has this feature or not so you might want to check with an Innovatek dealer. I think you get to the control board by popping off the back cover plate.

If you could give me a lil more info on that nurse, I'd love to try it.. Anyways I got impatient on waiting for my final items.. so I set it up and ran a different psu to it.. just to see what it'll look like.

I think you need the Plus version (latest) and Innovatek is not English friendly so good luck figuring it out. Best to find someone who has one that can help you. Try PM Pooky. :)

PM Pooky! Or get an Aquastream pump with the version 3.5 controller as it fits your plug-on reservoir. :)
