My computer has been booting me out of games with no error messages or anything. So I figure I could get a program that checks everything out and tells me what is not working? Is there such a thing?

If your games are crashing out to the desktop, 9 times out of ten it's not a hardware issue.
 
I've reformatted and all that. And all 3d games give me the boot. Civ does not. I figure it's worth a shot.

What is your CPU temps, make sure you have current drivers, and also make sure your DirectX is up to date. How good is your PSU?
