Hey, i'm sorta new to OCing (about a year now), so i haven't been around all that long. I was wondering, what is the Intel CPU with the greatest bang for the MHz in OC? Help is appreciated, thanks :)

dude, why are you posting the same question in the amd, intel, and overclocking forums...

i'm not crossposting, but thx for picking up on that

here, i'm asking for the most OCable INTEL, in the AMD forum (obviously), it's for the most OCable AMD, in the OC&C, it's for the most OCable SYSTEM (including RAM, Vid Card, HDD, Mobo, and Proc...)

Maybe you need to start doing your own homework. Overclocking is not an exact science, or a consistent one; you need to accumulate the opinions of many people to get the general idea of what a given processor is capable of. Go ahead and browse the SA, SI, and Overclocking forums on your own time. Maybe then you'll get a more complete picture of the overclockability of Intel and AMD processors.

good God people...

the man is asking an honest question and all he's getting is crapped on.

as for my opinion on which chip?

I'd say either the 2.4C or the 2.8C chips. I had a 2.4C that ran at 3.6GHz on air and my current 2.8C runs at 3.4GHz inside a small form factor case.

^^^

Seconded. 2.4C is an excellent overclocking chip. You will have no problems with it running 2.8 on a crappy heatsink, and that's being conservative. You can more than likely get it to 3.2 + on a good air cooled system.

another vote for the wonderful 2.4C, I had mine to 3.6 as well

*sighs and takes in a deep beath*
but if you are wondering about cheap overclockable amds as well, you can't beat the 2500+ for $80 that almost always reach 3200+ speeds

*ducks and runs for cover from flamers*

I think you mean the 2.4C, I have trouble getting my B to 2.9 :(

i have, i've already got what i think is the most OCable intel CPU, i haven't been in the game long enough to know much about AMD's past CPU, and thanks for the crappage.

thanks for an honest reply, i could use some toilet paper ;)

i, too, was thinking of hte 2.4C, but i wanted to hear *shock* what other people thought (oh noes! he's posting a question targeted to other people on a public forum!)

thanks for the replies all

I have a 2.4A Prescott, OCs to 3.4G(190MHz memory bus, 760FSB), 1.4375V (from 1.4V), stock fan.

OT: I had a Celeron 266 once that would do 516 with an oversized heatsink.

OT: :p lol

back OT: Okay, i guess the p4 2.4c seems like the winner, thanks guys :)

i have a p4 2.4c with one stick of kingston hyperx 3200 256mb i **easly** got it to 3.31 ghz without even uping the vol!!!!!! it was at 11.525 default volts now i can get it over 3.51 with 1.75 volts but i have to start ocing my ram when its that high and it wont surpass that and errors im almost sure if i got faster ram i can push it to 3.6 and it maxs the shiz before my mobo even maxs any of its settings and i only have the two ans on mobo and three 80mm fans in my case that came stock and when i play americas army with a full server it runs at a stable 40c never going over even with the 90F weather we been having i must say 2.4C are the shit!!!

I like my 2.6c. I haven't capped it yet, but it now runs at 3.25GHZ without a hitch.

But now days, you could probably pick up a 2.8 for only a couple bucks more, and it is probably well worth it.

I've had a little experience with the 2.4, 2.6, and 2.8's. They all overclock just as well, however it really depends on what ram you get. If you get ram that doesn't like going over 200mhz, the 2.4 isn't going to make you very happy (okay, thats a very relative statement) as the multi is gonna hinder you, even with the 5:4 divider...you'll cap around 3ghz. In the case of ram that won't hit 220+, I'd go with a 2.8c.

EEEEWWWW....Celeron

Do you wonder why Celeron 2.8s are about $75? They're nothing compared to a P4. I can go buy an old 600 mhz-ish Celeron, stick some watercooling on it, and get it to 1 ghz. That's a 400 Mhz overclock, which is 67%. That's a lot of overhead, but I think he actually wants some performance. ;)

I'm grabbing a 2.8C just because of my crap oc luck... if the 2.8 only hits 3.2 then I'll be happy, but if the 2.4 could only hit 2.8 then I'd be pissed. I just want more security.

yeah i dunno man.. 2.4C's are the shizzy.. I think I got a chip that maxes out exactly where my memory maxes out though, perfect pair :).
