Problems with Diamond 4850

I recently purchased a Diamond 4850; it works great until I reboot and then it loses all drivers and I have to use Driver Cleaner and reinstall the drivers; this usually takes 2 or 3 tries before it finally recognizes and installs drivers. My rig is a Q6600, 4gb ram; nothing is O/C'd; Resolution is 1900x1200; I've tried using both the stock Diamond drivers and various flavors of Catalyst. The same happens for each. I'm ready to dump the 4850 and go to something that is less troublesome.

Any ideas/solutions? Thanks
 
Are you running Driver Cleaner in safe mode? Also, did you have a NVIDIA card prior to the 4850? Make sure to clean out any NVIDIA vidoe card driver residue as well. It's also a good idea to run a driver cleaner a few times because sometimes it doesn't catch everything the first time you run it.
 
Safe mode yes; have run at least 3 times each time; and it is a new build--no previous card.
 
You should try different drivers, of course...first try the newest 8.10 drivers. Make sure you use driversweeper in safe mode to clean out all the old drivers.
 
In addition to the stock diamond drivers, I've tried 8.7, 8.8, 8.9 and 8.10

Same problems with all of them; they do finally install after several tries but upon reboot, they are gone and I'm told "no ATI card is installed"
 
Sounds like a windows corruption issue. Might be worth it to check out your ram / harddrives and do a reinstall. Could also just be a bad card. You should phone Diamond and see if they want you to RMA it. I heard that they had issues with their last few rounds of video cards (enough so that Alienware killed their contract with them).
 
I've reinstalled twice since my rebuild; strange that everything but the card is recognized all the time. I'll contact Diamond and hope for the best. Or, I might just try a different card and see if I get the same problems with it.
