i bought a Geforce4 ti4600 sometime around june 2 yrs ago and got a 2 yr warranty with it thru the store and a few days ago i started having problems with the fan on the graphics card, its making noises like its going to give out any time now...i cleaned it etc checked for stuff thats blocking it and theres nothing visible thats wrong with it so i took it in to replace it and they dont have any ti 4600's anymore so they said they would give me a geforce fx 5200 and i wasnt going for that because i know for fact that the fx 5200 ultra isnt as good as the ti 4600 even at FSAA which the new cards are usually better at...they kept saying the clock speed is higher "everything is better on this card" and i dont know what to say back to that except that its not and they are supposed to give me something EQUAL OR BETTER and i dont want a 120$ card in exchange for a 400$ card (what i payed for it 2 yrs ago..even tho it only sells for around 200 these days)..

anyone have any advice? i wasnt very argumentative im pretty shy and i really didnt know why the ti4600 is better...i think its because the ti4600 has more memory bandwidth but im not sure... i think if i went in there and said what i wanted in exchange for it and why it is equal to what i have they would do it..i just dont want something thats worse then what i should get

You gotta get at least a fx 5200 ultra out of them to get any where equal, or possibly a fx5600-fx5700

Tell them you want a refund in the amount that you can purchase the card for online. Bring a print-out of NewEgg's price on the card and show them and tell them that's what you want.

I would try and argue for a 5700 at the very least. You might want to print out benchmarks and as a matter of fact, you'd probably be well off showing them:
A) That the clockspeed is 325/600 for 5200 vs 300/650, so the clockspeed isn't very different, and the 4600 actually has more memory bandwidth
B) but at the same time, the Ti4600's core has a 4x2 pipeline, as opposed to the FX5200U's 4x1. Thus, the 4200 has nearly double the fillrate in multitexturing (i.e. almost all) cases.
C) and cap it off with benchmarks showing the 4600's superior performance over the 5200

if you bought the 2 year extended warranty and they dont have the product you want they are supposed to give you a store credit for the amount you paid for the last card (right?)

they cant bullshit you and give you an fx5200.
that is rediculous.

dont settle for ANY FX cards(I wouldnt settle for any of them anyway :| ), either get a radeon 9800pro or try to get a store credit or something.

read over your extended warranty see what you are entitled to.

Man you should get benchmarks proving that the fx5200 is an inferior. Then you need to tell them that just because it is a newer generation video card it does not mean that it is better. If I was you I would at least demand for a video that is of equal price to what you paid for your ti4600 2 years ago.

Also I do believe that they have to let you choose a product of equal of lesser value. Thats what happenend when I had to return my Mp3 player (becasue the headphone jack messed up). My best buy told me that i had up to the amount ($200) to spend on a new Mp3 player. Basically they let me go and choose anyone in the store that was up to $200.

Hope this helps you.
Also do not be shy its your fucking money.

Talk to a manager and me demanding. If your not demanding they probably wont give you want you want. They probably have some undereducated kid working the vcard section. Talk to someone with some power, bring in printed out benchmarks and a copy of your warranty, and demand demand demand.

If need be, tell the manager you will contact the corperate office need be, because that is just lame bs if they try to trade a 5200u for that ti4600. Apples to oranges.

You've gotta stand up for yourself at the BB. Some of the employees have no clue about specs (ooh, higher numbers must be better  ).

for the Ti4600, I wouldn't settle for a GeFX 5200, maybe an FX 5600 and at least a 5700, but try to get a Radeon 9600 Pro or XT out of this.

This is what is suppose to happen. So make your argument based on this.

I wouldn't. That isn't the way to get them to listen or favor your standpoint (which is the correct one anyways). Nonetheless, be polite and be factual, that will get you a lot further than laughing in their faces.

Yep that is true. If you start laughing and become an a$$hole for no reason then they will do thier damndest to screw you over.
Just be calm, show benchmarks, and demand (in a polite way).

Good luck!

Find an angry fat South American guy with jowls who wears pointy shoes. You should know someone like this. Tell him you're having a problem with some people that are trying to rip you off. Go in with him and have him argue for you.

Problem solved!

dont settle for a cheap card, if you paid 400, you are entitled to a 400 dollar card or store credit for the amount on the original purchase.

go with someone who can argue, thankfully my sister works customer service and she is a bitch, so she will argue over anything. I usually have her work out any problems I have with stores lol.

Alright bro, first off if you bought a prp on the card they are supposed to give you the same card in replacement for the defective one, in the event that the item is no longer stocked they are to actually give you your purchase price towards another card. This is based off of the yellow brochures that were in effect when you bought your card. In the event that they want to give you crap, best buy will HONOR THE MANUFACTURERS WARRANTY in store if there is not a replacement/service plan availiable on the item and it is what our service center deems 'DEVO' Either way you are entitled to a card that is worth roughly what you paid for yours.

If you have any questions about policy feel free to PM me.

I work there and I'm a tech. I do these things all the time. Do you have a PSP (Service Plan) or a PRP (Replacement Plan)?

If you have a PRP, you can call the PRP number and you WILL get your $400 in credit.

If you have a PSP, that makes things difficult, but you can get what you want. If need be, email me and I'll send you an email back and you can use it as proof. I will sign with my employee number and all. There is no way that they are gonna screw you over like that. I don't know if I can get you $400, but I can most likely get you a 9600xt or 5700 Ultra out of it.

We sold a Ti4600 for $169.99 last month for God's sake.

i called the number on the PRP and they gave me a number to call in the morning...well see what happens then...i can always go back to the store and talk to the manager if this doesnt work.

I work for Best Buy Canada (ie. Future Shop). :)
I have no loyalty to the company whatsoever and that's an understatement.

I used to work at best buy (one of the 1st in canada) and we didn't offer PRP on anything over $100 or $200 or something like that.
so I'm 95% sure he has a PSP on that video card. but yeah just talk to a manager and explain your situation calmly but FIRMLY if they think you're just a nice guy they will definitely not take your request seriously, Good luck!

Peace

same thing happened to me in a store up here called future shop.
i had an 8500, started acting 'weird', so i took it.
they test it and go 'its working fine, but we'll replace it anyway', and then proceed to try and give me a 9000. i say no way, they say ok, 9200, again i say no way.
i go home, get on the net, and google. low and behold, i found a sheet that states the specs of every single ati card made, and the only thing closer/higher in performance was the 9600. so i print it out and take it, the guy was absolutely shocked. his manager was pissed out of his mind, but he still had to give me my 9600. i ask if i can pay more and get the PRO (xt wasnt out yet) he says no way. so i drive to another futureshop, and get the pro. next day i go back, and make them price match it to another store selling much cheaper.
end cost for me (from 8500 -> 9600pro): $9CDN

so to answer your question, print out a data sheet. dont look at clock speeds, look at memory bandwidth, pixel processing, etc.....
on the 4400 should be higher than the 5200, that should shut them up.

note: i didnt read the whole thread, just the first post, so if this was posted, sorry.

Yeah. PRPs are generally for products under $200 only.

There is no way that you should get a 5200 though, I got one for 2 days and it was the worst thing I ever used.

Do me a favor and let me know the SKU (the 7 digit # by your card on your reciept), and I'll see what we're supposed to give you for it.

Ask to speak to the stores manager, and tell them that you are a unsatisfied customer. And argue your message tactfully. They will bend.
