Problem with master/slave detection in BIOS.

Recently I transplanted my Girlfriends computer system to a new case. After transferring everything over the BIOS will not detect the hard drive or CD Rom as master devices in the BIOS only as slaves.

The only change I made when switching over is that she had 2 old cd roms, a dvd player and cdrw, i replaced them both with a new cdrw. I have tried cable select, manually putting the jump on both devices to master, removing the jumper completely but everytime the bios shows them both as slaves.

I assume this will effect performance, it has increased the boot up time to about 3 times normal. I ran Sandra and it shows the hard drive as a slave in windows as well.

I am out of ideas on this one. The system is an AMD xp 2600 + with a Maxtor 40 gig hard drive and the mobo is an Asus a7v8x-x. Any ideas on this would be appreciated.
