Problem with Hyper Threading (Prescott 3GHz)

I have problem with enabling HT, almost every time I use Internet Explorer my comp. restart. If HT is disabled i don't have this problem. I switch to Mozilla Firefox and for some time I have not crushes, but today even Firefox restart my comp(with hyper threading enabled).
3D Mark 2003 failed while testing first CPU test with message "CPU out of focus". Game "Battle for Middle-Earth" randomly freeze.
Nothing of this ever happen with HT disabled.
But in "Hot CPU Tester Pro 4" everything work fine for 6h in both cases, with and without HT enabled.

First MB was GA (865)1000Pro-G(2 days testing), second Abit IS7-E2(865)(1 day), now everything is same on Abit IC7(875)(few weeks). I have tried with diferent types of memory (AData, Kingmax and now Hynix). G.Cards for testing with same behaving are GA Radeon 9000PRO & Connect3D 9550. Windows XP Prof. SP1&2.
curent config:
MB Abit IC7, Prescott 3.0GHz, 2x512mb Hynix 400MHz, ATI 9550, 360W Chietec

All on default values. I was also lowering mem to 166MHz and setting to low CAS, but random crush continous:-(
 
Seems like taking it back and getting a new one may be the best course of action.
 
I had a problem like this, I rma'd to intel today, but have all your trouble shooting info ready and be stern they arent too generous about granting an RMA.


He told me he would make an exception and "let me" rma even though I tested a Celron cpu in an non-celron supported motherboard for trouble shooting...


Then when he asked me what kind of celron it was I told him a 2.6ghz version, the P4 core based version and he said there is no such thing... and I said there are P3 Celrons, P4 Celrons and the new Celron mobiles based off the P-M, he didnt belive me.

What am I loosing with HT disabled?
Should I let it disabled and stop thinking about problems and restarts?
Is this Hyper Threading make any differences in every day work, or is it just marketing propagande?

no HT actually helps, it's one of the few advantages Intel has as of now...

I had a problem simliar to yours..except my processor would constantly have problems with everything. It would blue screen during reformats...blue screen with HT enabled....restart (not bsod) during games...and all kinds of stupid crap. Took me months before I decided to swap processors and now it works perfect. Maybe you got a stupid processor too.

My advice, update your bios or even go back to older versions if not rma it
 
the only thing that i can recommend is that you have the proper bios functions enabled for hyperthreading operation-acpi/apic. when installing operating system do not do a standard pc, advanced configuration and power interface (acpi) pc, nor acpi uniprocessor pc hardware abstract layer. with the bios set correctly, let windows detect and install the acpi multiprocessor pc hal.

when trouble shooting did you try 64bit linear addressing mode instead of 128bit dynamic addressing mode (use only one dimm bank instead of two)? possibly, the psu. if i read correctly, this psu can only supply 17amps for the 12v line(s). this is what the processor, motherboard with all its integral features, and hard drives get the power from. i would personally use around a 430 (12v ~26amps) to 550 (12v ~30amps).

cpu out of focus makes me wonder if it is hardware interrupt related since there is possibly no apic to control the calls per cpu i/o generated-it cannot control the interrupt masks. i could be wrong, but with ht enabled you want acpi and apic installed and operational.
