Problem with GTX570

I recently bought the EVGA GTX570, hooked it up, plugged it into my power supply, and flipped on the computer. Everything displays fine, windows, videos, etc, however, when I load up a game, everything craps out. The fan in the video card pops on, and my monitor stops receiving a signal, and I have to reset. I tried running Driver Fusion in safe mode to clear out my registry, but after reinstalling the drivers, it still did not work. So either there is a software problem that exceeds my limited computer knowledge, or there is a hardware problem, and I know nothing about hardware issues...

-I have a 600W power supply

-My computer is: Intel Core i5 2500K(3.30GHz) (copied from Newegg where I purchased it)

Any help is appreciated.

What kind of 600W power supply? Exact model would be good. It does look like a hardware problem though, unless your 600W PSU is made by the same people, who rate 10 dollar speakers at 10000W+++.
 
Ok, all of this copied directly from my power supply:

I've never heard of the brand, sounds like a generic 600W PSU, the kind that can rarely handle 400W.

There are two parts you NEVER go cheap on; mobo and PSU. I was leaning towards the PSU being the problem as soon as I finished reading the first line.
 
That PSU is a Cooler Master PSU. I've never known them to make any PC components that were worth buying.

The PSU is most likely the culprit. The GPU revs up for a game, asks for more power, and that "600W" power supply croaks. You're going to need to upgrade to a "real" 600W PSU. I tend to recommend Antec Earthwatts, Corsair, and Seasonic X PSUs.
 
Did a small amount of research on the PSU and I have to say I agree with the above. Ditch it ASAP. Xtreme Gear are a Cyberpower brand and from what I've seen they are crap. I'm willing to bet it is vastly over-marked and can't hit any of the rated specifications.
 
I have a SeaSonic S12-500W. It can reliably handle my GTX 560 and a 560Ti as well. I wouldn't push for too far over that as well. On your 570, you can reliably get by with a solid 550W, even though the box may "require" a 600/650W PSU (those requirements are because of brands like yours). I would be personally torn between picking one of these PSUs in your situation.

I'd probably lean towards the SeaSonic for it being modular, but the platinum certification on the Antec is drool-worthy within that range.

That's not the same SeaSonic PSU I linked. The Amazon link shows a much weaker 560W. I wouldn't go to such a lesser PSU to save $5, However, that is the same Antec at $20 less, so good find.Now keep in mind that I used Newegg links to demonstrate the product. He's free to buy anywhere.

Oh snap, you're right. Somehow I mis-read the numbers. The X650 doesn't seem to be listed on sale directly from Amazon right now; its just listed with some third party vendors that are (as usual) higher priced. I wasn't trying to suggest a lesser PSU to save $5. I mistakenly thought the X650 was available for $5 less at Amazon.

It's cool. Like I said, I mainly use Newegg as a reference because they generally have better product availability than Amazon (for PC components). I can go to one source for multiple links. Any smart shopper should shop around for the best price. Even if it's the same price, I'll take Amazon over Newegg for the better customer service.
 
Before you go out and buy a new component that you may not need, does this happen with every game? If it happens with every game, you could install linux if you have a spare hard drive and get a 3d game up and running on it like nexuiz. If it happens with every 3d game in windows, that is an easy way to make sure it is the psu. Even if it isn't the psu, you may want to get a new one anyway. It would just be good to know just in case it isn't the psu, you get a new one, and it has the same problem. It could also be the gpu, but this is less likely.
