Well, basically my MSI burner tends to lock up my entire system from time to time. It also fails more than it should (and used to). I think that updating the firmware MIGHT help this problem, but I am not sure. It may be the IDE drivers (im using nforce 2 ones), but as i said, i am not sure.
With that being said, i went to diagnose my burner's model number, so i could acquire the correct firmware. Windows says it is a "MSI CD-RW MS-8340S". On the actual device, however, it says it is a "MS-8340" (without the 'S'). I looked around, and the "MS-8340" looks slightly different from what i have; the buttons are square, mine are oval, etc. The one that windows detects LOOKS like the one i have (MS-8340S), but i am not sure if this is what it is or not.
For all i know, the outside could mean nothing and they could use different internal components.
Basically, i dont wanna kill my drive. Any suggestions?
