Problem with desk and weight?

I have a tempered glass top desk from Best Buy. I just happened to be looking at the manual, and saw that the max. recommended weight for the main parts is 60 lbs max.

This got me wondering how much weight I have on it, so I started adding it up, and between my 19" CRT monitor, my 17" secondary CRT, extra keyboard/mouse, little stuff like remote controls, etc, I have about 91 pounds on the main section.

However, it's been like this for about a year now, and I guess the weight is pretty evenly distributed over the top, and it visually seems to be doing fine... Should I be worried? Am I going to be woken up in the middle of the night by the sounds of cracking glass and my monitors breaking open on the floor?

Or, since it seems to be doing okay, is there need to worry about my overclocked desk? :D

overclocked desk

LOL

the design would enter into that
but beware of sudden changes, since its a static load and its been stable for awhile....
but if for instance the floor shakes, and you get wild with a few friends one night
all of a sudden its a dynamic load, and that could be a problem

I assume the legs are only rated for 60 lbs. The glass should hold up. If the legs aren't bowing or anything and still seem sturdy I wouldn't worry about it.

damn ouch, an image just popped into my head.. your gaming at your desk late at night you miss a crucial frag you slam your fist on your desk and the whole thing caves in the middle.. then your in the hospital for weeks as they remove 10" glass shards from your groin  i'll stick with particle board ty :p

Its tempered glass, if it breaks you'll have thousands of little glass squares to clean up. Picture what happens when a car window breaks. Speaking from experience, from having my back window in my eclipse broken out with a large rock, total clean up of that much glass is close to impossible. You'll never be able to get all the micro shards of glass from the carpet. Just never go barefoot in that room again.

Um reenforce with sheetmetal? oo I-beams I know my desks is bending now crappy particle board...

hahahaha...glass to the groin

It makes me wonder why you decided to look at the manual over a year after you bought the desk...

I would say if it's gotten this far with that stuff on it, you should be fine. But again, avoid sudden changes in that weight distribution. If you are really worried, you could always add some kind of flat-topped pillar support at the location of the most weight.

I wouldn't trust it... but then again I hate the whole glass furniture thing. I'm afraid of stuff that will easily break because I easily break the hell out that stuff.

I want a glass couch!

sit on it........if it breaks with you and the computer stuff on it, obviously you skimped on the desk thing and need to get another. :p
