I am having a strange problem with my Dell 2407WFP monitor, which I just got a few days ago. It’s a little hard to describe. Occasionally the monitor displays dark, horizontal lines, that kind of move up or down. It seems like they are ‘rolling’. I tried to take a picture and video of it but the problem doesn’t seem easily visible there.

I am currently running the monitor through VGA on a 6100 IGP :( . I have tried changing the VGA cable, changing the power cable. Since the problem reminds me of EM interference that CRTs used to display when near something like speakers etc. I even tried unplugging and moving away my speakers, moving my CPU off the desk and away, even though I know LCDs aren’t susceptible to this kind of problem.

I don’t think that the problem is with the monitor per se, as this is already a replacement. When my order was delivered to me, it had a dark, un-removable, 1cm diameter smudge near the center of the screen, along with this problem. It was the A04 revision. So I had it RMA’ed. This monitor is a replacement, and it's new (not refurbished) though it’s A03 (I don’t really mind, since I don’t intend to use component anyway). But this monitor also displays this problem. I am running this monitor off an 800VA UPS. I tried plugging it directly into the mains, as well as running it only on the UPS (by turning off the mains) but the problem is still there.

Haven’t had the opportunity to run it on DVI yet.

If anyone experience with this or has the solution, please let me know.

Thanks

Did you try this monitor on a different PC or laptop? Also have you tried a different monitor on this PC?

If you are not able to take a screenshot or video of this on the PC then it most likely means it's a monitor issue. It is not uncommon for people to get a bad monitor after a RMA.

PS: With a monitor of this high a resolution, you should really use DVI..

I meant taking a pic with a camera. I can see that the lines are appearing 'on' the monitor. This happens occasionally, they appear for around 15-20 secs, and then they disappear. My old monitor, a Samsung 740N LCD, didn't show any problem. I still think that there is some external factor involved, since the exact same problem was also present with the first monitor.

I want to use a DVI connection, but that's not an option right now, since I have sold my graphics card and I am waiting for a new one (DAAMIT, just release the HD 29000 XTX already:mad: ), and the 6100 IGP doesn't have a DVI connection.

I am trying to find a computer with a DVI port, but no luck yet. I wanted to know if someone has experienced such a problem before, maybe with the VGA, and how it was solved.
