i have the asus a8v with 8 channel audio, i have a 5.1 setup up, but whenever i try and play anything the system is lagging the audio so it is playing at times like it is in slow motion, i dont understand i have 1gb of corsair, a 3000+ amd 64 bit, and an 80 gb hard drive, if i close all my programs it will play fine, but even typing right now it is playing in slow mo any thoughts?

problem with audio

first thing i would suggest is updating the drivers for the onboard audio.
also, are you resampling?
as a test, i'd open up task manager and switch to the 'performance' tab. move TM to a far corner and try to reproduce this effect. Does cpu usage spike up when the audio starts playing slow?

i'm not sure if a usb cable modem would cause this problem. why not put it to the test?
temporarily unplug the usb cable modem and try reproducing the effect.
in any case, something is sucking up cpu resources so try to narrow it down to what it could be.

try reproducing the effect again, but this time keep the "processes" tab open in task manager. see if the CPU usage goes up for a particular program.
to answer your question, none of those programs look strange.
also, try using a different mediaplayer like winamp or foobar2000.
another question: when you're not doing anything on the computer and only the music is playing, what is the cpu usage?
