I got my 9800 PRO today and so I decided to put it in. I followed the steps in the FAQ, but it didn't go as planned
First, I uninstalled the driver to my old NVIDIA card (ti4200). I then rebooted to go into safe mode so I can run driver cleaner and i could not go into safe mode. It would get to the black screen with the drivers listed, and then it would just restart. It started up to the desktop with a blank screen. I gave up and just installed my 9800 PRO and got another blank screen. I went ahead and popped the cd and finally I got a desktop screen. I uninstalled everything nvidia, and installed the ATI drivers and used the driver cleaner. It still will not boot into safe mode though.

Why isn't it booting into safe mode now and do you think it will be alright for now since I didn't install the drivers quite right?

Thanks

Edit:
3Dmark01 - 14930
3Dmark03 - 5438

how do those sound?

5438 is not too bad for your setup...you could definitely get more out of that card, though. But generally 5500-5600 is typical for stock on a typical system, after overclocking you can get more.

if you go from nvidia to ati, you should just format.

Why...I see no need to. I have no problems after upgrading from my FX5600.

I formatting is always a good idea. Nothing beats a fresh clean format :D

For swaping video cards you dont need to format, but its not like it hurts.
