I have a WD800JB that's about 2 years old now I think. Anyway, the problem is that sometimes, the drive will just turn itself off while the computer is on. I know because I might be in Windows or something, then I hear the drive spin down and stop followed by my screen freezing, then a nice big BSOD. Rebooting then tells me it can't find my HDD which is because the damn thing is still sleeping. Usually, a quick solution is to swap the power cable to another one.
Does this mean that my PSU is not supplying sufficient/consistent power to the HDD? I'm using an Enlight 420W which is a pretty reliable brand over here, just that this ain't TruePower or anything.
Or could heat cause the drive to sleep? Right now, it's situated in a 5.25" bay between a Sunbeam Rheobus and a Yamaha CDRW drive.
Would really appreciate help. Hope my drive isn't nearing death.
