Problem displaying Quicktime movies in IE and Firefox

When I load a page with a Quicktime movie on it, the Quicktime window shows up with the Q symbol and a question mark over the symbol and then it fades out. I've tried uninstalling and reinstalling Quicktime and the activex controls, I've messed with firewall settings and security settings as well as settings within Quicktime. I cannot get it to play the movies streamed off of webpages.

It's just an average joe blow box running Windows XP Home. Any ideas?

I'm not sure how you configured your Quicktime settings but I installed Quicktime Alternative, then went to Control Panel --> Quicktime --> Browser Tab --> Mime Settings Button and make sure all relevant options are checked.
