Looking for a printer that can scan, print very quickly with great colors & will last without any issues.

How much do you want to spend?

How often are you going to print pictures?

Do you prefer laser or inkjet?

How long were you hoping to keep the printer?

Do you need any specific features (like built-in wireless or auto-duplexing)?

... I thought I recommended a printer to you earlier:

$140 - Epson WorkForce WF-3620 color inkjet multifunction printer

What changed since then?

Price isn't an issue but would like best bang for the money. If possible I would like to print pictures that I can frame later if it's worth it. I've always owned an ink jet so I'm not familiar with laser printers..I would like to keep the printer for as long as possible. Wireless would be nice but not really needed. Well you recommend an ink jet but I'm looking into alternatives such as laser & I want a fast scanner, appreciate the response.

How much at most can you spend on the printer?

What do you print most often? Documents? Photos? Presentations?

What do you plan on scanning? How often?

How often do you print something per week? Per month?

Do you print from one "primary" computer or from several different sources?

What "alternates" were better than my earlier choice?

200 that is if there is something truly better than your suggestion.
Documents mostly photos next
Scanning mostly documents for work. I forgot to mention I want the printer to have an auto feed so I can put 40 or any number of documents and it automatically scans them instead of loading one by one.
I honestly will not be printing very often, mostly when it's needed for work. But out would be cool to be albe to print any picture with near prefect quality such as family or vacation photos, how possible is that?
I will only own one computer but I do also own a Samsung s5 so it would be nice to print from it of possible.
Once again what are the differences between ink and laser jets?

You want a photo quality office printer? lol...

I think you'd be better off with two printers. One laser jet for printing/scanning since the cost of laser jet is a lot cheaper than ink jet.

Most laser jet printers are black&white only and/or have limited color spectrum. They don't use actual liquid ink like an ink jet printer does. Instead they use a toner that's filled with a powder to print images.

With that being said if you're mostly just looking for a scanner, then document printer, then color printer I think you'd be better off with a laser printer/scanner combo and then get a separate inkjet photo printer for printing your family prints. Something dedicated to printing photos will most likely be able to handle lager dimensions on the prints

Well I'd rather stick with just a really good/reliable all in one printer, scanner, etc

Then the printer tiraides recommended is what you need.

You need to treat "all-in-one" as "jack of all trades, master of none." A multifunction printer won't scan as fast (or have an ADF as large) as a document scanner (like the Fujitsu ScanSnap series) or print photos as well as a dedicated photo printer (like the Canon PIXMA series). Also, $200 isn't enough to buy a multifunction color laser printer, and laser printers suck when it comes to printing photos.

What was wrong with my earlier choice? I need to know before I recommend a "better" alternative.

... I want a perfect do everything printer under $200. You sound like my old boss when she was asking for printer advice. Fast, cheap or reliable. Pick two.

I understand. What would be a noticeable upgrade from my old printer which was a Canon mx700?

For an MFP focused on documents, choose the HP OfficeJet Pro 8620. It also has a built-in duplexer that allows you to print on both sides of the paper.

For an MFP focused on photos, choose the Canon PIXMA MG7520. You lose the ADF but gain the ability to print from memory cards or your smartphone.

The major issue with both printers is that replacing the ink all at once can be expensive. The Canon PIXMA MG7520 uses six cartridges whereas the HP OfficeJet Pro 8620 uses four.

Is the Epson you mentioned earlier a step above my old Canon mx700 that is all I'm looking for..plus an automatic document feeder that scans documents to pc is a must. Also I really like the automatic two sided printing...

The MX700 was first reviewed around 2007. Any of the printers I recommended would outperform it.

If you really want an ADF, you're limited to either the Epson WorkForce WF-3620 or the HP OfficeJet Pro 8620. Flip a coin.

Which is more reliable and can print photos better? Also can you use non oem print cartridges that are a lot cheaper than retail? On my Canon mx700 I've never bought Canon ink but non oem for cheap off amazon that worked great.

You need to conduct some research on your end. There's only so much we can do for you.
