i've had my promary hard-drive fail this morning. i assume something happened to the MBR because when i got a old bootable harddrive in there and looked at it, it is raw data.
are there any applications that can scan the hard-drive and perhaps let me resotre it or at least recover all the data i can?
preferably something free, since i really dont have the cash to afford anything expensive, especially after i buy a replacement hard-drive for it.
oh, and the details of the failure:
was playing my games this morning, then the computer locked up for about 5 or 6 seconds, rebooted then went:
Verifying DMI pool data:
disk read error. press ctrl+alt+del to reboot.
everything else is fine, it recognises the drive fine, the drive isnt making any noises or behaving weird. CHKDSK says there are one or more irrecoverable errors on the volume.
can anyone help?
