Trying to figure whats the best solution for single display @ 1080p. would like to spend less than $400 and have multiple cards.

Well, you already have a gtx 670, so you could buy another one. Our systems are pretty identical, except for me having the second 670 and I haven't found anything I can't max out with two of them. At the 1080p res I have had no memory problems with my 2 gig cards. Two of these (especially with a little overclocking) are similar to a 780 or even 780 ti.

Not sure if that means you are ok having multiple cards or don't want to have multiple cards. If you dont want to SLI, then the only upgrade that will be meaningful would be the 780 or 780 ti on green team, and the 290 or 290x on red team.

I would rather have two lower end cards than an expensive $500+ single card, and my single 670 isnt cutting it in the newer games(ie bf4).

We do have pretty comparable systems, are you looking to upgrade anytime soon, or are you content with what you have?

The 770 will be an upgrade from a 670 but it might not be a big enough jump for you. To be quite honest, it probably won't be. I am confused though - because the 670 is a great card for 1080p. Is it not doing the job for you right now? Just curious.......i'd think the 670 would be okay as is. Anyway if you want to upgrade, I would do one of two things. Sell the 670 and try to buy a 780 at 500$, or sell the 670 and buy 770 SLI. 670s are pretty difficult to find these days at a reasonable price (since they are long EOL), unless you get really lucky.

I was gifted with two 280x for mining, and making some decent money so far with them. You dont think two 270x would be decent?

Do I think so? No. Because 280X and earlier cards have microstutter in DX9 and surround while crossfired, and I do use surround. But that may not be applicable to you. I also play Skyrim still, which is obviously not a DX11 title, and most ubi titles don't have CF support which a big minus for me. But a lot of these may not apply to you, and it could be a good solution.

It's up to you though. I really don't know how crossfired 270X cards fare in crossfire in single screen resolutions, but I do know a single 270X is a bit slower than the 660ti and GTX 760 by about 10%. So I think it would be a performance jump while crossfired if you only play supported DX11 titles and you're not using any form of surround. If those variables match your gaming setup, you may want to search google for some 270X CF benchmarks. I imagine it would be a good jump but it really depends on what you play.

According to the tests 2x270x will be like a 290x and handle much more than you're gonna need for BF4 at that resolution.

I have a single 270x I haven't hooked up yet but can let you know how it works on 1080p in BF when I do :)

Just get another 670. Or if u can sell the 670 and gran 2 760 or 770 the GPU boost 2.0 will help. Throttling at 70°C (gpu boost 1.0) really throttles with sli. Unless you like a lot of fan noise (combat the top card from getting so hot). You have an EVGA 670, if it's a ftw version you have no issue and I'd recommend just finding another one as the ftw has reference 680 cooler. If it's the reference 670 cooler it's not up to snuff even in single card setup so I'd consider grabbing 2 other cards, or a single 780 if u can swing it after selling the 670.

Very happy with them. So far I haven't tried BF4 but everything else I have had no problems with at all. I am also gaming at 1080p, but I grabbed the second card because I would like to eventually get a 120/144 hz monitor. Two 670s is pretty much overkill for almost every game out there at 1080p, 60 fps. I haven't noticed any type of stuttering and it's very easy to setup, even though my cards have different default speeds.

i really don't understand threads like this. you have a budget. either buy the most powerful card you can afford or buy another of what you have. and why would you prefer to have multiple cards? and why do you need something more powerful than a 670 for 1080p? so confusing.

This^
Get a higher res screen if anything. 2560x1440 means you wont max anything intensive out with a 670 though it will look better than maxing games out at 1080p as you can still push textures and lod.

Why is that?

All multi-GPU setups exhibit some degree of microstutter — there's just no pacing mechanism in that configuration to mitigate it, which makes it a suboptimal solution in those scenarios.

Its funny, the 780 GTX is what the 290 should have been, an affordable gaming platform...

Amazon had AMP! cards for something like $465 with AC 4......
