heres my specs

Lian Li PC-65B, Pentium 4 3.2ghz Prescott 1mb Cache, ASUS P5GD2 mobo, 512mb DDR2 533, ASUS GeForce 5900PCX, Western Digital SATA 10,000rpm

i have to intake fans, two exhaust, a slot cooler, and another exhaust at the top
(yes it hums fairly loud)

my idle temp is 32C and my load is around 48C
everything seems to pretty stable and from what I hear (i dont have much experience with prescotts) these are decent temps since the prescott runs hotter than northwood.

I have not overclocked yet since I just got my system a a few days ago and I wanted to see how far you guys have pushed the prescott from 3.2ghz. I have the stock heatsink, but I am willing to buy a new one if you've sen better results. As for water cooling, I want to steer away from it for now because I dont have that much experience with it. In the future I will go to it, but for now I will stick to air cooling.

What do you guys reccomend? Better heatsink? How far can I go?

Any help would be great. :)
 
well, as my sig suggests, i do NOT have a P4...that said i will give you my best advice:

no one knows how your chip will overclock but you. all procs are different, one person might have gotten 3.7GHz on air, and another 3.3GHz...you never know....but one thing you can do is get your stepping and compare it to other peoples and see what they get, though urs may turn out differently...

and from what i hear prescotts run VERY warm, so another cooler is almost a must...ask other people about them, cuz i, again, don't have one!

You should be able to get a nice performance boost. I tried a D0 stepping
Prescott 3.2 last week, and while, as you say, it ran surprisingly cool at
box speed, it started to sweat a bit when it was cranked up.

On the plus side though it went to 3.8GHz without much effort at all, think
I had to crank the voltage from 1.3875 to 1.4825 or something like that to
get it totally stable, but encoding video in Prem Pro 1.5 took it over 80C,
and that was with a Thermaltake Tower and a 120mm fan cooling it. The CPU is
for a customer so I didn't push it any further, but either way I wouldn't
want to run it like that for extended periods of time without a watercooler.

Biggest issue I had was that, even at this speed, the performance I was
getting was still some way below what my trusty Northwood 2.6C manages at
3.5GHz (and without needing anything like as much cooling).
