Prescott for the most part at the same clock as Northwood is a weaker CPU. However, some of the optimizations (1MB L2 & SSE3) can help in a FEW benchmarks. (NOT MANY)

However I would prefer a Northwood for now. Since not much software will have support for SSE3 for a while. And NW runs much cooler than Prescott. I think Intel just needs to work on fixing the .09 process and just make a die shrink of the P4EE or just increase the L2 to 2MB. We dont need the longer pipeline yet. I think they introduced it too soon.

Well the whole point is to get the Prescott beyond speeds of 3.6GHz so that it outperforms the Northwood-C. If Intel can deliver a 4.0E, that will be a beastly processor. That is if they can resolve the heat issues with LGA775.

Would be funny if Intel designed and sold a cheap Freon phase-change cooling solution for their CPU's, and people would just buy it and use it to overclock their Barton-m's... yeah that would be really funny. Intel makes a product that actually rules, and still gets fucked over. On second though, they aren't stupid enough to do that. I dunno what happened to Intel. They had some really grat CPU's; P1, P2, P3. 4 is an oddball, and Prescott is just going down a steeper hill.

They are trying to shove products down our throats again; just like the Pentium Pro.

I liked the Pentium Pro .

I think we will see Prescotts pass the Northwoods in performance once clocks reach about 4.0 gHz, when the longer pipe could start to make sense. All Intel wants is a good amount of headroom.

the 3.0E was only $240. a trip to russia and back would undoubtedly cost you more.
