I got a 2p box here running the SMP client under windows, it seems according to HFM I am getting a touch over 21k for ppd. I have the v 6.34 smp client with -amp and -bigadv. Do I need to set something else or do I need to turn a certain number before the bigadv wu come in?

Also note your bonus is not reflected in HFM if I am correct.

you should just have -bigadv not -smp if i remember correctly, otherwise -smp cancels out the -bigadv tag, but some one correct me if i'm wrong since its been almost a year since i've used the smp client.

It is not my experience that the '-smp' flag cancels out the 'bigadv' flag.

The scheduler on windows is a pile of crap. A pair of 5640s on linux should be getting around 80K to 110K PPD depending on WUs processed.

I'm not a linux guy, what can be done to improve this?

what work unit in particular is running?

Even stock those buggers should be getting higher in windows.

Is this box a dedicated folding boxen ?

Running P6099, R7, C30, G93. TPF is 9:23 and with bonus calculation on PPD is showing 18653.8

Box has the hyper-v role enabled. There are 2 virtual machines running with zero load.

So is there a reason, other than unfamiliarity, that you cannot go the linux/buntu route ?

Mainly unfamiliar, I like my windows.

I like windows too but i run Ubuntu on 2 of my rigs, Much quicker than windows. Musky's guide is awesome and will get upi up and running in an hour or so

Given that you have dual quads i would expect 55-85k PPD on Linux, windows you will be lucky to get 55k max.

It may be worth a try to use musky's guide, and then just install Virtual box/vmware (your preference) for your virtual machines in linux, just for the points gain. If you need help trying this (assuming you try) just jump on the IRC: irc.dp.cx:6667 #HardOCP

How much disk space does a linux install need? I might pop a hard drive in there and do it as a trial and see how it pans out.

You can get a Ubuntu install installed in under 10GB (not sure the exact number, but lower than windows ;) )

I'll prob give it a whirl. I got some other hardware I was going to setup for a dedicated folding box I am prob going to pop in that box. The VM's are on a raid array and there was also a storage array in there.

Just to make sure: you have turned in 10 WU with the passkey thats currently entered, right? I mean, it could be something as simple as a mis-typed passkey resulting in missing bonus points

HFM.NET does not take that into account.

I have used the passkey on other machines, or does it need to be 10wu on this machine?

Nope, just 10 WU's total from that name, so you should be passing your bonus than.

would the new client be better than the 6.34 or doesn't matter?

I tossed ubuntu 10.10 on it, HFM is reporting 60k+.
