with prices coming down with recession and all, a switch to 8800 GTS's (g92 / 128shdr) instead of 88 GT's may be in the pipe

Just wondering what are the Avg PPD values for each of these 3 cards

96/88 GS/O || ~3k PPD , 2 something on 511's

8800 GT || ~4.4k PPD , 3.4 something on 511's

88/98 GTS/X || ?? What PPD values?

also, how are they on power and heat compared to a 8800 GT ?

--- OR .....

any rumors on release dates for the next gen Nv GPU? any single slots? Even if they dont have single slot units, prices should drop a bit further once 3 series comes out

waste of money to switch from the 8800GT to 8800GTS.. if you going to do that.. just spend the extra money and get the 9800GTX or GTS 250..

power they are pretty much identical.. maybe a tad more.. heat they are much better on since they have a dual slot cooler.. but still a waste of money.. you will probably only add 200 maybe 300 ppd per card..

3 serious rumored date is some where around the end of october.. or november for the low end G300 cards.. the GT300 cards will come out a little while after that.. pretty much like ATI did with the 4850 then releasing the 4870 the next month..

from what i can see and tell.. PPD wise there doesnt look to be much of a difference between the GTX 200 and GTX 300 series.. but thats just basing it off rumors that can no way in hell be correct.. because nvidia would have to be insane to think they could sell a 40nm chip using a 512bit bus GDDR5 and make a profit.. all the low end cards will pretty much be ATI HD4k series clones with the 2 way shaders instead of 5 way shaders that ATI uses.. so those will still get better PPD then ATI cards.. but blame F@H for that.. its not the cards fault..

my recommendations:
if you need the cards now.. go with the 9800GTX or GTS 250.. if you can wait.. then get the gtx 275 in november when they will be dirt cheap.. or even the gtx 295.. the price on that card should plummet to almost current gtx 260 prices..

Im not switching from one to the other, I'd be switching from buying one to buying another, I havnt bought anything yet

maybe the 192 shdr 260's will come down in price....

i thought the 4850 was released like the second week in june.. then the 4870 was released the first week of july..
Nope. Some retailers broke the street date for the 4850 and started selling it early, but the official release was at the same time as the 4870.
