Does PowerDVD 8 Deluxe use hardware video acceleration for ATI cards?

I currently have a 8800 GT in my computer at school with that program installed, and until video acceleration it says something about purevideo...but I don't I remember it saying anything about Avivo. I just got a 4870 for Xmas so I'm hoping I can enabled video acceleration again once I replace the 8800 GT.

Yes you can, just depends on what you're playing (Blu-rays I assume, so it'll work fine).

yes, you can still enabled hardware acceleration. both NV and ATi cards do video acceleration using DXVA.

About DXVA

Not sure what PowerDVD does with DVDs (MPEG-2), even though the lowest end CPUs can still decode ~9Mbps MPEG-2 just fine. With DXVA for MPEG-2, you won't be getting much offloaded onto your GPU because (for ATI cards at least) only IDCT is done on the GPU while the rest is still decoded on the CPU.

But I think that same Video Acceleration allows the card to help filter the image as opposed to the software (PowerDVD itself) doing the filtering.
