Has anyone recently calculated their costs for a point ?
For example, my dually 933 is producing (per EMIII) about 35 to 45 points per day per processor (about 80 ppd) for an added electricity usage of about 1 kw per day. I just built a 2400 sempron that cranked out a 240 pointer in 2 days for about 0.25kw per day above idle.(10 watts) (all measured with my trusty kill-a-watt)
Thus-
dually 80 points for 1kw
sempron about 500 points for 1 kw

Does anyone else have any good data points ?

Not yet. I've got to get a Kill-A-watt... :(

gnewbury that is awesome.. THANK YOU. PLEASE keep checking them.. I really want to know the power v. points over months (to account for various point value WU) ... somebody with some knowledge tell me if I want overclocked xeons or a a64 for my boxen this christmas :D

... if we get some additional solid data we could give it to King_N and have it on hardfolding.. comparing ppd and ppkw ? where is Fugi? he'd be pleased.

I'd like to have any all data you guys have on power usage... I could put it on my spreadsheet with cost/GHz,etc,etc,etc... more data the better!!.... my spreadsheet is far from perfect, but I can't improve it without help/data!

this would be a really good idea, especially useful for people who need to maximize ppp (points per power)

Sounds like a great idea. The tiered usage scheme here in SoCal (SCE) has my last kwh's in the 24 cent range, freakin' expensive. I'm workin' on moving a few machines out to the gararge where the electricity is on a utilities meter that I'm guessing the landlord pays *cough* *cough* ;)

Hehe, good one Bait-fish! When I was in my apartment, I often thought of moving my computers out to my garage (unattached, 30 yards away) since the power there was paid for by the apartment complex, but I didn't have a wireless network set up, so I didn't do it. Now I just run an extension cord from my neighbor's back porch into my house. That's the way to save on high energy costs! ;)

Funny thing is.... our neighbors all thought we were putting in an extra line out to are extra garage/building to have power out there when we had that trench dug last summer........ If they only knew...... if they only knew............
