Power supply testers?

I was wondering if the following would be sufficient to test it.
There is no real way to economically test a PSU as an end user. Cheap testers have two problems

1: they will test the PSU with either no load or a very light load
2: they will only measure voltage not other important characteristics of output quality.

bottom line is they really won't tell you anything you couldn't find out with a multimeter and possiblly a paperclip. Indeed the multimeter is probablly better becaue it allows you to test the voltages when the PSU is actually running a stress test on your rig (which while not ideal as a test load is a lot better than anything you will find in a cheap PSU tester).

PSU testers capable of properly testing a PSU under known and controllable load conditions do exist but they are VERY expensive. Commercial ones run into thousands, you could probablly jury-rig something for quite a bit less than that but once you add up the cost of the resistors, connectors, heatsinks etc and add on the cost of a cheap end ossciliscope so you can see the ripple it will still probablly cost more than just buying a new PSU and seeing if it makes any difference to stability.

Also does Corsair sell modular cables separate from their psu's? I have been looking but haven't seen any yet.
I think most PSU vendors will sell you (or possiblly even give you) replacement modular cables if you contact them and ask but they don't market them as a seperate product. Partly because you really have to be careful about making sure you get the right modular cables to go with a particular PSU since there is no standard for them.

Contact Corsair's customer service or PM Redbeard on this forum and ask about it.
