Power supply question

Hey all -

I'm building my first rig, and I'll be honest, I don't know much about power supplies other than skimping on them can seriously hurt you. Here's the setup I'm considering:

E6400 (With plans for quad core if they come way down in price like they say)
either an 8800GTX or an 8800GTS with plans to SLi in the future (if GTS, I won't SLi the GTX)
1 HDD, 2 optical drives which I have in place already
either Asus or MSI mobo

I have no fancy fans in my case, no water cooling, just the regular stuff. I'm wondering what would be enough? I've found a 580W power supply by Hiper and a 600W by Kingswin that I like. Are these too much? Not enough? I really don't want to spend too much, since I'm on a fixed budget.

Hiper:

Kingswin:

Thanks for your help

$70 or so would be ideal if thats possible.

Also I forgot to ask about the deal with PCI-e connectors having 6 or 8 pins...does this affect GTX/GTSs?

as i remember only the amd r600 might have that, the current cards use 6 pin connectors (1 on the GTS and 2 on the GTX)

I suggest spending a bit more. The Corsair HX 520 is just a bit over $100 at Zipzoomfly with free shipping. The Silverstone Olympia 650 is about $120 everywhere, and they're both infinatly better. The Hiper doesn't really have a lot of amperage, I doubt it would do 2 8800gts'

The Kingwin.. Massive Fail.

Look for quality before bling.

I'd suggest Corsair's 520W or 620W PSU's. You don't want to go cheap on the power supply as it's one of the most crucial parts of a system.

Hm I really like the Corsair 520W. My only concern is that it says the 12V rails only give 18A, but nVidia's site says 8800GTS's want 20A, and I'm planning to SLi in the future. But I should be able to get by, since those numbers are really for people with no-name power supplies, right?

+1 on the Silverstone Olympia 650

I need a bit more juice for my system and a bit more reliability than the Antec 500W I had. Oh, and the Silverstone had a whole lot more connectors than my Antec. I'm not going to claim I know as much as Bbq on PSUs, but he knows his stuff.

Doesn't it have multiple rails? But i think it's actually a single-rail design, masked as mutli-rail; although have Bbq or someone confirm this. Nevertheless, it's enough to power your 8800GTS.

According to newegg, it has 2 pci-e cables and connectors, and advertises "combined 40A on triple +12V rails."

Its outputs are +3.3@24A,+5V@24A,+12V1@18A,+12V2@18A,+12V3@18A,- 12V@0.8A,+5VSB@3A

So it should be able to handle 2 8800GTS's no problem, right?
