Power Supply I won from Nvidia

Circuit layout is important, yes. But it's very hard to control unless you've built your own house. I live in a house that was built 30 years ago (5 years before I was born). My computer is in the living room and every time my refrigerator in the kitchen kicks on, my desltop speakers pop (my kitchen is on a different circuit though). When my son turns on the TV my monitor screen wiggles like I just degaussed it.

Someone needs a UPS, ASAP.

I don't think a UPS will help me much. I don't have any equipment grounding conductors in the house. Something I wish I could change, but 'tis a rental.

A quality UPS with a strong battery will clean up the power fluxes you are having with your computer. As of right now, you are just waiting to pop something.

oh wait, UPS, I was thinking Surge Supressor for some reason. You're right as long as the UPS is a true UPS and not a SPS (if that acronym is even valid today). I've looked into them. but for some reason I get sidetracked. Not enough beer I guess

standby power supply is still valid, though most manufacturers are using "line interactive"
(better spin than something that implys it mostly just sits there) :p
most all true online UPS dislike non-PFC Switch Mode Power Supplies (SMPS) its the nonlinear loads, so active power factor correction becomes pretty important

without it basically deduct 40% of the capacity of the UPS

Guess I'll look around a bit more. I remember back in the day companies were using the UPS term loosely. Even calling their SPS ('scuse me "line interactive") model UPS.

So say I have a 500w non PFC PSU what would I need? Do I also include my peripheral ratings like monitors, printers etc? I don't know a whole lot about actually buying a UPS.

Guys, i'm very excited. First of all I didn't know this much about power supplies and this thread is becomming super educational and 2nd It looks like I won a really uber PSU. I'm stoked!!! :D

You actually just get an AVR too. Essentially a big ol' coil, but it does the trick:

Only $17.99 for 1200VA. :D
