So my HX1000 died couple of days ago, and I was without a system because I was running Sli 480's so no way anything could power them other than a 1k unit so I decided to do something with this system and would like your guys opinion on it.
Basically I was put in a place between buying another 1000w Power Supply for this aging system or buy a much smaller PSU and hook it up to a newer generation GPU.
So went to my local Hardware store and was on my way to buying a 770 when something caught my eye they had 1 GTX 680 DirectCU II left from old stock I guess and it was 25% cheaper than the reference 770 I was going to pick up, knowing that the 770 is just a 680 with higher clocks and the card being DCII I picked it up.
And wow the difference in smoothness heat and noise is just mind blowing got it to 1241 on core getting better FPS than my old 480's with a much smoother gameplay experience also because I play a lot of games in window mode and we all know Sli does not scale good in windowed these games now run rock solid.
End of the day gonna maybe have 1 more year on this PC and just pick up a new one when the 20nm GPUs launch, just wanted to share my experience with you guys
