• Some users have recently had their accounts hijacked. It seems that the now defunct EVGA forums might have compromised your password there and seems many are using the same PW here. We would suggest you UPDATE YOUR PASSWORD and TURN ON 2FA for your account here to further secure it. None of the compromised accounts had 2FA turned on.
Once you have enabled 2FA, your account will be updated soon to show a badge, letting other members know that you use 2FA to protect your account. This should be beneficial for everyone that uses FSFT.

How come I am not notified when someone replies to my post? Every other forum has this feature. You click on your notifications, and it says "2 people replied to your posts", etc. Then you click on the links and it brings you to that thread. Am I missing something here? Why isn't this a feature on this forum?

You have the option to subscribe to threads in your user control panel.

Automatic Thread Subscription Mode:

Do not subscribe
Subscribe with no notification
Instant email notification
Daily email notification
Weekly email notification

Ok Thanks. I found it under Control Panel: Edit Options: Messaging & Notification: Default Thread Subscription mode.

I still think that it is a pretty terrible design though. At least the daily email notification should be set as default. Besides that, this forces me to manually delete subscriptions when I'm no longer interested in them. WHAT SHOULD HAPPEN is that the user automatically gets a notification message on the forum web site saying that someone responded to either that thread, or to their post in that thread. This way, you're not bothered with dozens of emails from the same thread, but you know if someone responds directly to your post, or if someone responds to the thread after you post at all. These notifications should be on the website only by default, with receiving notifications by email as well as an option. This way, you're not bothered by constant notifications from a forum if you don't request it. Furthermore, if the user is genuinely interested in what people are saying on the forums in response to their posts, or in threads they posted in, they WILL LOG IN TO THE SITE. When they do this, this is the correct time to provide them with these automatic notifications in a clean, unbothersome way.

Most of the bells and whistles are turned off by default because most members want a clean, simple interface to work with. The system is set up to give each member the choice.

I had to post a question, to find out how to know when people reply to my posts. It took me at least a minute on top of that to find the solution after I read your answer. Doesn't sound clean or simple to me. That said, everyone's entitled to their opinions. Thanks for helping to keep this site going by being an admin.

What I do is subscribe without email notification. Then whenever I log in, I just hit the User CP link and there are all the threads I've posted in that have had replies. I can also manually add a subscription to a thread I haven't posted in if I'm interested in following it via the Thread Tools dropdown menu (Subscribe to this Thread). Try that... I think it'll suit your needs. :)

The reason everything is turned off by default is that all these things use resources, whether it's constant database queries to check for replies to your subscribed threads or using the mail server to send automated notices.

This is a large forum with considerable traffic. A lot of tweaking has been done to make it run as lean and efficiently as possible.

A quick way to see who's quoted you is by searching for your own username, click search, type your name, hit enter and up comes the threads where someone has quoted you.

This is standard vBulletin layout/design on every vBulletin out there...it is as simple and clean as it gets. And compared to Huddler or PhpBB etc, it is simpler imho.
