Been running by 2.4C @ 3.3 ghz for about 1.5 years now. Well, the IC7 max-3 burned up a couples weeks back so I did the RMA thing. put it all back together, no dice. I have to take my proc to fry's and strap it to a test bench mobo (carefully.. no IHS) to see if the proc went too.

I wonder, if the proc took the mobo, or the mobo took the proc.

anyway, if I need to replace it, what do y'all recommend? maybe a used P4? no sense in spending major dough on a legacy system eh?

or, what available proc should I get?

So you'll be spending about $330 for a system that is highly likely to hit 4GHz on air, and also has a great upgrade path (Pentium D's, possible Cedar Mill / Presler if Intel doesn't drop the compatibility ball again.)

Now that I think about it, you'll also need DDR2 :\

or you could just go buy a cheap S478 CPU

get a newer revision 3.0e or 3.2e, theyll get 4ghz or close too. Id tell you to replace the board and cpu if I thought youd see a performance difference, but itll be minor at best.
