He i was looking for something for something with a kick butt, and i found this Foredom Rotary Tool The thing though is Crimson Sky said that the dremel flex shaft wasn't that good and this is flex shaft based. Well any input would be helpful.
 
Price makes it geared towards a different market entirely.

My guess would be, if you have that kind of money for tools, you aren't using a Dremel for many things anyway.
 
Let me start by saying that is the original dremel. and it will own any dremel.

for that price, no thanks. my dremel works flawlessly for what i need anyway.
 
If I had the money i think I would go that way as well cause that is almost exactly how i use my dremel as of right now. And a 60" flex shaft would be great no more accidently pulling the dremel off the hook. Hell could even put it in a lexan box to cut down on noise.
 
I just ruined a dremel gasket matching the intake on my car. I wish they would put a thermal overload on there, I know it would increase the cost by 15 cents and ruin the company.

Foredom has been around for a long time and even Lowes is selling them, at least until they realize everyone is too cheap to buy a quality tool. On the other hand, for that price you can buy a compressor and die grinder and really go to town without limits.
 
Foredoms have been around longer than dremels and are way better. Their primary market is jewelers. They are built to last and are very high quality. They are also expensive. The coolest feature about them over dremels (besides the quality) is that they have a foot pedal to control RPM. They can also take 1/8" shank bits.

Only problem with the compressor is that anything with a competive price to the Foredom won't have the CFM to feed a hungry die grinder. (my current problem) I have a 2.5 HP 10 gallon compressor and head/intake porting is excruciatingly (sp?) slow. I just killed my RTX using it for porting, damn thing started smoking

*EDIT* Didn't know Lowes carried Foredoms. Thats good news. :D
